“Guo Qingyuan, we’re really not close enough for you to call me by my first name,” Wang Yiran said coldly after frowning at the boy who had just arrived. Her tone was distant and aloof.

Qin Anyi, almost out of habit, turned around. What greeted him was a face he couldn’t help but recognize.

“Yiran, don’t be so cold, come on. Two years is more than enough time for strangers to become friends, or even closer. Besides, we’re classmates. I know all you care about right now is your studies, and that’s fine. I can wait. But at least let’s start as friends, give me a chance, and give yourself a chance too. Maybe you’ll find I’m not as terrible as you think.” Guo Qingyuan forced a bitter smile. He looked dejected, but never once changed the way he addressed Wang Yiran.

If it had been before, Qin Anyi might have been fooled by this display, especially given Guo Qingyuan’s undeniably striking appearance. The whole scene looked just like some tragic confession from a lovesick youth. But Qin Anyi believed that no matter how skilled someone was at acting, their eyes would always betray some truth.

“Qin Anyi, not to be critical, but ranking in the twenties or thirties is enough to get into an ordinary university, sure, but it’s still risky if you’re aiming for a 211 school. As for people like me and Yiran, we’re definitely going to Capital University in the future. Your grades are just too far behind,” Guo said with a look of concern, as if he truly worried for Qin Anyi.

“President Guo is absolutely right,” Qin Anyi nodded, but then turned to Wang Yiran. “Yiran, since we’ve finished eating, shall we go? Let’s find a place for a date—let’s get to know each other a bit better. I’m really looking forward to some one-on-one training with you.”

There was nothing inherently suggestive in the words themselves; Wang Yiran understood he was talking about martial arts practice. However, the sly and mischievous look on Qin Anyi’s face could easily mislead anyone who didn’t know the context.

Guo Qingyuan, of course, misunderstood immediately.

“Fine, let’s go to my house. No one’s home tonight, and the equipment there is the most complete,” Wang Yiran said impassively, glancing at Guo without a hint of emotion.

Qin Anyi was stunned for a moment. He’d only meant to get back at Guo Qingyuan for his arrogance, to make him squirm a little. Qin Anyi’s philosophy was simple: if you treat me well, I’ll return the favor; if you make me uncomfortable, then I’ll make sure you’re just as uneasy.

He hadn’t expected Wang Yiran to play along at all. Just as she’d said herself, beneath that calm and elegant exterior, she clearly harbored a few hidden mischievous streaks.

As Wang Yiran and Qin Anyi left side by side, Guo Qingyuan’s face darkened like the bottom of a scorched pot. He clenched his fists and stared fixedly in the direction they’d gone, his chest heaving violently. The flames of jealousy inside him felt as though they might consume him entirely.

“Qingyuan, what are we going to do? Everyone at school knows how you feel about Wang Yiran, and now this Qin Anyi just doesn’t know his place. We can’t just let him off so easily,” a boy at Guo’s side whispered, treading carefully.

“Hmph! Wang Yiran! I’ve chased after her for two whole years and she’s never even spared me a glance, yet she’s so close with another guy! Once I get her, I’ll make her regret it!” Guo Qingyuan took two deep breaths, then continued, “First, find out about this Qin Anyi’s family. If he doesn’t have any background... then he can’t blame me for what happens next!”
