“What are you talking about?” Xiao Fengyu asked, puzzled. The conversation between the two was so convoluted, she could hardly make sense of it.
Qi Xi looked at Xiao Fengyu’s confusion and suddenly laughed, the smile carrying a hint of self-mockery: “Haha! Who would have thought it was all so simple!”
After the laughter, Qi Xi’s expression darkened: “And yet, it’s far from simple.”
“Brother Qi, what are you saying? I really don’t understand any of it,” Xiao Fengyu pressed anxiously.
Qi Xi explained, “It’s simple. Nuclear bombs have nearly destroyed the world, but if humans could hide deep underground or in outer space, they’d be safe. But compared to outer space, underground is more feasible. That’s why I laughed—because something so simple never crossed my mind. What troubles me is, if nuclear bombs destroy this world, the worst part is the nuclear radiation. Even for genetically modified humans, it’d take a hundred or two hundred years before anyone dares to set foot in irradiated zones again, for fear of further genetic mutation. That means Westmelon and I would have to stay underground for centuries! What kind of international joke is this?!”
Qi Xi grew more agitated as he spoke, roaring, “How could anyone endure that long! Looks like we only have five days left!”
“No, no! This shouldn’t be the last chance!” Forcing himself to calm down, Qi Xi felt his pockets for cigarettes but found none left. Unable to help himself, he squatted down in the laboratory and began to hop, ignoring the strange looks from Xiao Fengyu and Li Feidao.
Squat, jump, squat, jump—Qi Xi continued for over a hundred repetitions without stopping. Li Feidao, growing impatient, finally spoke: “Qi Xi, what are you doing? Figure out how to get us out. It’s dangerous here, not just for us, Westmelon might be in danger as well.”
“Out, out, out, out.” Qi Xi, like a stubborn child, kept hopping and mumbling.
In truth, this was his odd method for rapid thinking, apart from smoking, the fastest way to calm himself.
“No, if we leave now, this lab won’t help us anymore. Xiao Fengyu, go to the computer and check what resources are available in here,” Qi Xi said, suddenly composed.
Xiao Fengyu nodded quickly and hurried to operate the computer.
“Feidao, see if anyone’s approaching outside. If someone notices something’s wrong and comes to inspect, tell me immediately,” Qi Xi instructed Li Feidao.
“Understood.” Li Feidao nodded and left.
‘There are probably two choices now: one, find a way to become “King of Humanity” within these five days; two, figure out how to seize the genetic source in the underground base.’ Qi Xi pondered as he walked over to Xiao Fengyu.
Xiao Fengyu, noticing Qi Xi’s approach, breathed unevenly. Her cheeks flushed, and the thought of having sent Li Feidao away made her shyly anticipate what might happen.
She tried to push away such thoughts, but couldn’t help secretly hoping.
Yet reason told her it was impossible.
“I found it. This laboratory’s main research is the ‘immortality’ gene. It’s the theme of all Rockefeller labs in America. The immortal gene has been developed, but as it’s untested and uncontrollable, they’re still analyzing data,” Xiao Fengyu said, reading from an English line.
“Immortality?” Qi Xi was startled, coming out of his thoughts to scan the data. Under the “completed” projects, the “ongoing” research was clearly focused on immortality.

“Can you pull up the details?” Qi Xi asked.
“I’ll try.” Xiao Fengyu frowned, her fingers dancing across the keyboard. Soon, she had it: “Ha, that was easy!”
“You’re amazing,” Qi Xi said, delighted by the information, and patted Xiao Fengyu’s head.
The affectionate gesture made Xiao Fengyu even happier, her cheeks reddening further, as she giggled, “It’s not that impressive, really. There’s no lock on it, I got it right away.”
Qi Xi scanned the research results, skipping technical jargon and irrelevant details, quickly absorbing the essential information.
Becoming a genetically modified human means never dying of old age, existing eternally—yet susceptible to external harm. But the immortality gene went even further.
It allowed the main genetic sequence to be stored in a four-dimensional space, while the body remained in this world.
That meant, with this power, no matter what destructive force the body suffered in three-dimensional space—even reduced to ashes—it wouldn’t affect the person at all. After a time, they would regenerate. If nothing was left, it would take a long time to recover.
“Incredible,” Qi Xi murmured, reading the information. “Where is the immortality gene serum in this lab?”
“On Test Bench Three,” Xiao Fengyu replied.
Qi Xi and Xiao Fengyu moved to Test Bench Three, where the gene serum was sealed in a glass vial.
Qi Xi examined the azure liquid, projecting a data interface onto it.
[Name: Immortality Gene Serum C1T1000]
[Category: Consumable]
[Quality: Excellent]
[Attribute: Immortality]
[Effect: Stores the body’s main genetic sequence in four-dimensional space; immune to attacks in three-dimensional space.]
[Note: Beware of being sealed.]
“Let’s go.” Knowing he had the right item, Qi Xi spoke, and he and Xiao Fengyu prepared to leave. At that moment, Xiao Fengyu seemed to make up her mind.
She had learned things from Qi Xi’s words about the future. Qi Xi might leave her, and the world would be destroyed in five days. Many hopes might never be realized, so she had to act.
Qi Xi felt his shirt tugged from behind.
“What’s wrong?” He stopped and turned to look at the downcast Xiao Fengyu.

Xiao Fengyu, blushing, head lowered, hesitated before finally speaking: “Um… I have something to tell you.”
Qi Xi was puzzled. “What is it?”
Her cheeks were red, but hidden by her hair. Qi Xi didn’t see, but he could notice her open collar, the creamy skin tinged with pink, especially alluring. From his vantage point, he could clearly see the curves and a faint hint of rosy hue.
“I, I’ve wanted to tell you for a long time…”
“Hmm?”
Just then, Li Feidao burst in, shouting, “They’re here! Security—”
Before he could finish, footsteps echoed.
“Heh, they’re quick,” Qi Xi said indifferently, stepping forward.
“OH! Fuck!”
“Damn it! Fire!”
The security team, seeing the damaged door and equipment, cursed and raised their guns.
‘Bang bang bang bang bang bang!!——’
Qi Xi lifted one hand, stopping all bullets a meter from his body. As they reached him, they halted mid-air.
Compared to Westmelon’s half-baked “repulsion” ability, Qi Xi’s power was far superior.
“Idiots!” he scoffed, flicking his hand. The bullets shot back, killing all ten security guards on the spot. Their bulletproof vests offered no protection.
“Let’s go. Before we attract attention and the genetic team arrives, we must leave,” Qi Xi said, turning back.
“Mm.”
“Yes.”
