After Huo Lingtian hung up the phone, his face grew dark, his eyes deep and still as an ancient well, not a ripple betraying his thoughts. The aura of a bloodthirsty reaper emerged from him, the ruthless dominance of a man who once reigned over all the underworld in Asia. Years ago, at the mere mention of his name, gang leaders would scatter in terror, fleeing for their lives. Back then, the young master of the Huo family was brash and reckless, leading his brothers into the criminal world, fighting turf wars, smuggling, stopping at no evil. Wherever he passed became a scene of carnage, a living hell on earth. If not for that fateful day when he suddenly matured—or perhaps grew bored with the game—washed his hands clean, returned to inherit the family business, handing over his operations to his brother Yan Dong and halting their expansion, there would be no underworld bosses left in Asia today.

As the years passed and his experiences grew, Huo Lingtian transformed from a hot-blooded youth into a man of deep composure. Yet those who truly understood him grew all the more wary. The deeper his calm, the greater their fear. He was like a lion king lurking in the shadows; when he struck, he would rip out his enemy’s throat, leaving families destroyed. When Huo Lingtian’s fury could no longer be contained, it was as if a volcano on the verge of eruption—surging, dangerous, unstoppable.

“Boss?” Even Yan Dong, usually fearless, was filled with dread at this moment. He knew that whoever had provoked Huo Lingtian now was utterly doomed.

Huo Lingtian shot Yan Dong a cold, expressionless glance; that one look sent chills down his spine, making even this burly man’s heart race. A thousand curses flashed through his mind—who was the fool who dared provoke the demon of the underworld… terrifying indeed…

“Madam Huo was bullied. She’s in the hospital,” Huo Lingtian said quietly.

“Damn!” Yan Dong exploded with rage. That was their acknowledged sister-in-law—anyone who dared bully her was slapping them all in the face. This could not be tolerated! “Boss, let’s take some men and storm back there!”

Huo Lingtian gave his straightforward brother’s head a light slap. “Society’s civilized now, no need for bloodshed. First, we ruin her reputation, then seize her assets. At most, we leave her wishing for death but unable to die.” Huo Lingtian spoke as if it were nothing, but those listening were chilled to the bone. Huo Lingtian—unmatched!

“Dong, you have three days to settle that European territory. If it can’t be done, bombard the headquarters of the European Azure Dragon Gang. Damn it, all my time is wasted on this nonsense—I don’t have time to play hide-and-seek anymore!” His authority was overwhelming.

“Boss, don’t worry. I’ve long disliked those people. They don’t know what’s good for them,” Yan Dong replied gruffly.

“Get the private jet to the tarmac. We’re flying back home.” With that, Huo Lingtian ordered his assistant and strode out without a moment’s delay.

That night, someone slipped quietly into a private luxury hospital room. The woman lying in bed had her forehead swathed in thick gauze, her exposed arms smeared with ointment. Her brows were tightly furrowed, her sleep restless and uneasy—a pitiful sight to behold.

The shadowy figure by the bedside was instantly moved to tears. Shedding his trench coat, he climbed gently onto the bed. Huo Lingtian cradled the fragile, restless Rong Qing in his arms, carefully placing her injured hand on his chest. He softly blew on her wounded skin, and the girl seemed to relax in her sleep, her brow gradually smoothing.

Sensing the familiar embrace, the comfort of his presence, Rong Qing nuzzled drowsily against his warm chest like a small squirrel, a sweet, kittenish whimper escaping her lips. “Lingtian… you’re back…” she murmured, eyes still closed, lost between dream and wakefulness.

“Shh… sleep well,” Huo Lingtian replied, his voice low and tender, his hand gently patting her back.

With a few more snuggles, her breathing soon grew even and peaceful. Only then did Huo Lingtian’s tense heart finally settle. Oh, his little darling—her pain nearly cost him his life.

After a night flight, Huo Lingtian himself was weary. Still clothed, he held his precious one close and drifted into a deep, restful sleep.

At dawn, the sunlight streamed through the window, bringing a rare sense of peace to the hospital room. Rong Qing stirred, half-awake, recalling a dream from the night before: Huo Lingtian coming back late at night, coaxing her to sleep. Warmth by her side startled her awake, and as she opened her eyes, Huo Lingtian’s chiseled features came into view. His jaw was shadowed with stubble, but that did nothing to diminish his striking handsomeness.

“Darling, if you keep looking at me like that, I’ll think you’ve fallen for me,” Huo Lingtian teased, opening his deep, familiar eyes, their tenderness making her cheeks flush.

“Hmph, you’re overconfident,” Rong Qing retorted with playful haughtiness, though the warmth and flutter in her heart only grew.

Pushing himself up, Huo Lingtian gently brushed her injured forehead, his face full of concern. “Does it hurt?”

If the eyes cannot lie, then the pain and guilt in his gaze spoke volumes—his sincere emotion struck her heart, leaving her breathless. In less than two weeks, their contract would end, but she could not escape the net of affection. She had fallen for the president of the Huo Group, that man so high above, almost godlike…

With Lingtian’s return, all her defenses melted away in his tenderness, and even her slightest wounds ached with a bittersweet emotion.

This one phrase from her left Huo Lingtian aching in a way that surpassed any wound or bullet he’d ever taken. All the affection he’d lost in those thirty years, he poured into this stubborn little thing. Huo Lingtian kissed her hand with reverent care.

Time seemed to stand still in that moment, sunlight bathing the two as they embraced—so harmonious, so perfect, so quietly blissful.

“Rong Qing…” The door to the hospital room suddenly swung open, and Yan Lin burst in, morning paper in hand. “Uh… Huo Lingtian, you… you two carry on.” He tried to shrink his presence to nothing, but his jealous glare had already slashed them a thousand times over.

“Come in,” Huo Lingtian replied with clear annoyance. Just as he was about to hold Rong Qing in his arms, their moment was rudely interrupted. He got out of bed and headed for the bathroom.

Yan Lin, under the glare of a thousand-watt lamp, entered the room. He had only taken a few steps when—bam!—he tripped over a pair of shoes carelessly tossed by the door, landing face-first. Supporting his glasses, he struggled to his feet, feigning frailty. Huo Lingtian, you did that on purpose, didn’t you…

Sure enough, whoever disrupts a romantic moment is bound to be struck by lightning!
