Chapter 131: Another Success
In the middle of the previous chapter, the distances were meant to read two hundred meters, three hundred meters, five hundred meters, and six hundred meters. The phrase “underwater” had been mistakenly rendered by the Sogou input method as “under ten thousand years.” It has now been corrected. Thank you for your support, dear readers.
The deeper he went, the greater the pressure became. But enough idle talk—let us continue from the final sentence of the previous chapter:
He Zhixing had discovered an enormous, supreme-grade blood coral brimming with spiritual energy. Just as he was preparing to dig it free from the seabed and haul it upward, a massive sea serpent emerged from a nearby cavern in the rock. It opened its cavernous jaws and lunged toward him!
He Zhixing was startled. He immediately abandoned the supreme-grade blood coral, swiftly pulled the file from his belt, and dodged the sea serpent’s attack. The file scraped across the serpent’s body with a sharp hiss. He felt it strike skin as hard as stone; it had not left even the slightest mark.
The sea serpent swung its head around and attacked again, churning up a cloud of muddy water and swirling currents. Every creature on the seabed fled for its life. Those that could not escape in time disguised themselves as motionless plants, stones, and other objects. He Zhixing was not afraid. Since the beast had charged at him so ferociously, he would simply find out how much power it truly possessed.
He Zhixing gathered his vital energy and leapt through the water. With the file in his right hand and the little wooden-carved beauty in his left, he met the serpent’s head head-on. Faced with those cavernous jaws and the wildly flicking forked tongue, a timid person would have fainted from terror long ago. Who would dare engage a monster of such terrifying proportions in a battle to the death?
But He Zhixing was precisely the sort of man who did not fear death. Amid the turbulent vortex and the serpent’s overwhelming physical advantage, he circulated his vital energy through his entire body and deftly slipped past the serpent’s head. Twisting his body, he shot along the creature’s side at astonishing speed—so fast that it could almost be measured in seconds.
At the instant the serpent’s jaws snapped shut on empty water and He Zhixing twisted past its head, he struck again. The file slashed toward the serpent’s neck, while the little wooden-carved beauty in his left hand smashed against its body.
This time, the file managed to scrape a tiny wound into the skin of the serpent’s neck. The sea serpent was instantly driven into a towering rage. It whipped up furious waves and wild sprays, sending everything around it into chaos with its powerful rolling body and sweeping tail. He Zhixing had to activate his x-ray vision to see the direction of the sea serpent’s devastating attacks.
Without his x-ray vision, he would probably have become food in the sea serpent’s belly long ago. Man and serpent battled furiously on the seabed, disturbing the seas and skies alike. At that moment, six coin-patterned spirit turtles suddenly appeared.
They swam around He Zhixing and helped him fight the enormous sea serpent. The bubbles they exhaled posed a tremendous threat to the beast. Their bubbles were astonishingly hard, and while surrounding He Zhixing, they helped defend him against the serpent’s attacks. With the aid of those strange bubbles, He Zhixing was able to strike without the slightest restraint.
At last, he killed the sea serpent. The file had torn through and severed the seventh section of its neck. After the serpent died, its blood spread across the seabed, dyeing the water a deep crimson.
The women on the surface thought something had happened to He Zhixing. They called his name one after another and prepared to dive down to the seabed to rescue him. Just then, they saw him rising through the water inside a huge bubble formed from the spirit turtles’ bubbles, towing both the supreme-grade blood coral and the headless body of the giant sea serpent.
He Zhixing broke through the surface and drew a deep breath. The women had already gathered around him, asking anxiously whether he was hurt.
“I’m fine,” he told them. “I’m perfectly all right!”
With the spirit turtles’ bubbles, they could float safely on the surface. These strange bubbles, filled with spiritual energy, were even more useful than life rings. They could swim freely across the sea without worrying about their safety. The bubbles were harder than steel and solved the problem of exhaustion that came from swimming for long periods.
He Zhixing dragged the headless body of the sea serpent in front of him, split open its belly, and removed its gallbladder. He then threw the corpse back into the sea and let it sink to the seabed.
The enormous supreme-grade blood coral rested securely among the cluster of bubbles exhaled by the spirit turtles. He Zhixing had obtained two treasures of rare natural magnificence at once: the seldom-seen gallbladder of a giant sea serpent and the supreme-grade blood coral.
The spirit turtles formed a mass of bubbles to carry their bodies. Guided by the turtles, the women held onto the bubbles as they swam toward the shore near JS Salt City. After seven or eight hours, they reached land safely and set off in the direction of the city.
