“It’s me.”
Sumu stared at Lei Yan without evasion.
Upon entering this camp tent, he had already guessed that his previous actions had caught this man’s attention.
Over the past few days, he had been inquiring about Lei Yan’s reputation.
The Silver Armor General of Daliang!
A man of integrity, who never abused his authority to oppress the common people.
For years, the Xilin Army’s defense of Qinghe Town had been strengthened by Lei Yan’s presence, greatly reducing bandit activity nearby.
Of course,
Most importantly, according to rumors, this man had once been a servant who, through remarkable military achievements, earned his rank.
Yet despite his distinguished record, he was never truly promoted but instead remained stationed at Qinghe Town, rooted there for life.
He was barely involved in the capital’s affairs.
Among the eight great armies of Daliang, Xilin Army’s supplies were the poorest.
This was precisely because Lei Yan was not from a noble family.
But it was for that very reason that Sumu felt confident appearing before him.
Lei Yan rose and looked curiously at Fatty Li.
“Since you’ve come at this hour, I assume you have some matter to report?”
Fatty Li nodded and pointed at Sumu.
Sumu, seeing this, did not hide his intent and calmly said, “General, have you obtained any useful intelligence from the barbarian prisoner I captured?”
Lei Yan’s mouth twitched; this kid really knew how to ask questions!
Wasn’t this just rubbing salt in the wound?
He couldn’t very well admit that the interrogators of the Xilin Army were useless and had nothing to show for their efforts.
Ridiculous!
“Interrogations take time…”
Before Lei Yan finished, Sumu looked him in the eye and said seriously, “I have a way to make this barbarian confess.”
Lei Yan’s expression changed dramatically, his gaze grave as he stared at Sumu.
“Is that true?”
Sumu nodded and cupped his hands respectfully.
“If you give me a soldier who can communicate with the barbarian, I guarantee that within the time it takes to burn one incense stick, I will obtain useful information.”
Lei Yan took a deep breath and clapped his hands.
“Very well! I’ll give you one incense stick’s time!”
“Deputy General Chen! Take this young man to the barbarian prisoner’s holding area and assist him in obtaining the intelligence.”
Outside the tent, Deputy General Chen looked surprised when he heard Lei Yan’s call but couldn’t help rubbing his hands when he saw Sumu.
“Good lad! It’s about time I saw you again!”

“Once this is over, you owe me a proper sparring session!”
Sumu smiled lightly and nodded.
“No problem!”
Lei Yan shot Deputy General Chen a glare and snapped, “Put away your schemes and take him there immediately!”
Chen scratched his head awkwardly and smiled.
“Understood!”
...
In the dungeon, torches lined the walls, casting eerie shadows through the deep, narrow corridors.
Bloodstains were faintly visible on some steps.
At the far end of the dungeon, cries and roars could be heard.
Deputy General Chen pointed at the prisoners held nearby and explained to Sumu, “This dungeon holds vicious sea bandits and the barbarian prisoners you captured.”
“According to Daliang law, each of them deserves execution hundreds of times over.”
Sumu glanced at Chen and chuckled softly.
“The fact they’re still alive means some of them must have connections or backing.”
Chen’s mouth opened in shock.
“You’re quick-witted, kid!”
“That’s why I don’t like those noble scions.”
As they spoke, they arrived before the barbarian leader’s cell.
At the sight of Sumu, the barbarian leader’s anger flared uncontrollably.
“Dukuo! Dolya! I’ll kill you! I swear I’ll kill you!”
Sumu glanced at Chen to his side.
Chen quickly translated the barbarian's words to Sumu.
Hearing this, Sumu was unfazed. He pulled over a chair and sat opposite the barbarian.
With a flick of his finger, he tossed a pill into the barbarian’s open mouth.
“In my hands, death is the easiest escape.”
“What I just gave you isn’t poison, but something you’ll never forget your whole life.”
Chen scratched his head and translated Sumu’s words to the barbarian.
The barbarian leader was puzzled by Sumu’s demeanor.
He could sense that this man was no friend.
Sumu’s inaction only made him more uneasy.
As time passed, the barbarian felt a rising heat within his body.
His skin began to flush faintly red.
His eyes filled with bloodshot veins.
He let out howl after howl of agony.

Sumu yawned and looked at Deputy General Chen.
“Put this guy with the sea bandits.”
“Let these evil-hearted men mingle. Maybe they can cleanse each other’s souls.”
Deputy General Chen shuddered instinctively at Sumu’s cold gaze.
A ruthless man!
This was the cruelest tactic he had ever seen.
He dared not imagine what would come next.
Yet, thinking about those noble scions imprisoned here—accused of abducting village women and terrorizing the people, countless women suffering unspeakable abuse—
In that regard, they were no different from these barbarians.
With this realization, Chen nodded.
“I understand!”
Suddenly, Sumu smiled slyly at Chen.
“Remember, once this barbarian wakes up, have him take turns with the sea bandits taking the medicine, keeping his mind as clear as possible.”
Chen’s mouth twitched.
“I understand...”
Chen muttered a few words as he eyed the barbarian leader, who looked at Sumu as though seeing the devil itself.
His body trembled uncontrollably.
At this moment, the barbarian understood what Sumu meant by suffering worse than death.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Soon, the dungeon echoed with heart-wrenching wails.
The sound was utterly harrowing.
Chen felt a chill run down his spine and tightened his legs nervously.
Yet when he turned, he saw Sumu calmly sipping tea, as if none of it affected him in the slightest.
Chen exhaled sharply.
He would rather fight barbarians a thousand times over
Than be captured by Sumu even once!
As the incense stick’s time neared its end, the barbarian leader crawled on the ground, tears and snot streaming, legs trembling as he looked at Sumu with pleading eyes, patting the floor.
“I confess! I’ll confess to everything! Please, spare me!”
“Don’t let them touch me anymore...”
