Chapter Thirty-Four: Becoming the Nightmare of the Barbarians!
Late at night.
On the hillside, Guan Qing gazed at the barbarian encampment in the distance, his mouth twitching slightly. He turned to look at Su Mu beside him, his voice tense. "Captain! You aren't joking with us, are you?"
"That is an encampment of a thousand barbarians!"
"Under normal circumstances, to surround and annihilate such a camp, one would need an army of at least three thousand!"
The others felt equally grave, their hands gripping their blades tightly.
A thousand men?
They only had a hundred!
Normally, if they were to face a hundred barbarians, the odds would be fifty-fifty. Facing a thousand now... this was nothing but a suicide mission!
Su Mu turned back to look at their nervous expressions and chuckled softly.
"It seems you are all very afraid, aren't you?"
"Those who are afraid may return now."
"Those who are not, stay!"
As soon as Su Mu said this, their faces flushed red.
Return?
If they went back now, what face would they have left?
They were just barbarians, after all!
At worst, they would fight to the death. Killing one was breaking even; killing two was a massive profit!
Su Mu watched them and shook his head.
"Rest assured, since I brought you here, I naturally have absolute certainty of success!"
"Now, I will assign the battle plan!"
Su Mu pointed to Jiang Hongluan nearby and continued solemnly: "Hongluan, take your men and set an ambush on the east side of the camp. Once they break, they will undoubtedly try to flee that way first. You must do everything in your power to intercept and kill them!"
Jiang Hongluan struck her chest with a clenched fist, looking at Su Mu with her head held high.
"Understood!"
Su Mu turned to Guan Qing and pointed toward the windward side.
"Guan Qing, take a squad to the windward side and release the anesthetic smoke. Once these barbarians inhale it, their combat effectiveness will become negligible."
"After all, even an ox would lose consciousness and be unable to move once it inhales this smoke!"
Guan Qing rubbed his hands together; at this moment, he understood Su Mu's plan.
That's right!
A frontal assault would be unpredictable, but they were in the shadows now!
If they were calculated and prepared while the enemy was caught off guard, the barbarians were not so terrifying after all!
"Don't worry, Captain, I guarantee the mission will be accomplished!"
Su Mu nodded and turned to Xu Qing.
"Xu Qing, lead your men to infiltrate quietly. Once a portion of the barbarians falls into a deep sleep, eliminate them immediately."
Xu Qing nodded firmly.
"Rest assured, Captain!"
Finally, Su Mu looked at Tie Yan and Yue Peng beside him, a faint smile on his lips.
"As for you two, follow me! The moment the barbarians discover us, engage them in direct combat!"
"You must eliminate the enemy in the shortest time possible, and do not give them the chance to regroup!"
Hearing this, both men placed their hands on their chests and nodded firmly in acknowledgment.
Su Yi, hearing the arrangements, instinctively stood behind Su Mu.
At this moment, Su Yi seemed like Su Mu's shadow, blending into the darkness. Only the hilt of a blade caught a faint, cold glint.
As Su Mu’s orders were issued, everyone began to move in succession.
As the anesthetic smoke drifted into the barbarian camp, some who were still drinking from large bowls slumped onto their tables without a sound. Even the patrolling guards collapsed to the ground.
A gust of wind blew through; as the torches flickered out, flashes of cold steel appeared, and barbarian after barbarian met their end.
Under the shroud of darkness, the scent of blood permeated the air, as if the night itself were devouring all life.
Thump, thump, thump...
Inside the barbarian camp, one brute looked at the lifeless body of a Great Liang woman nearby and spat in disdain.
"This little wench couldn't even take a beating; she’s already dead!"
"Forget it! I'm going out to find some wine!"
The barbarian donned his armor, tightened his belt, and strode out of the tent.
Just then, a gust of wind struck him, causing a sudden shiver to run down his spine.
"Hiss! What cursed weather!"
The barbarian drew a sharp breath and looked around, freezing in place.
Because!
The previously brightly lit camp was now largely plunged into darkness.
The thick, pungent smell of blood filled the air.
Not far away, he witnessed a torch go out, and in the next second, a flash of blade-light appeared, and a fellow barbarian fell to the ground.
Watching the figure standing atop the fallen man, his pupils contracted instantly.
"Enemy attack!"
Along with his shout, his own throat was pierced through by an arrow.
His eyes widened as he collapsed to the ground.
But following his cry, barbarians in the surrounding tents quickly donned their armor, grabbed their blades, and rushed out.
Seeing this, Su Mu shook his head.
Was he a step too late?
It didn't matter!
Of the thousand barbarians, only these two hundred remained. The rest were already buried in the darkness.
Su Mu raised his long spear, pointed it at the approaching barbarians, and said coldly: "Kill them all!"
At Su Mu's command, everyone seemed to be surged with adrenaline, their spirits instantly ignited.
Among the crowd, Su Mu’s spear was the sharpest point of their unit, piercing through barbarian after barbarian!
His eyes had only one target!
The barbarian commander!
Once he was dead, this force would surely crumble. Then, they would be nothing more than lambs waiting for the slaughter.
The spear in Su Mu’s hand moved faster and faster!
Within a few rounds, he carved a bloody path.
He was only a step away from the barbarian commander.
The commander looked at Su Mu, his legs trembling in fear until he collapsed to the ground.
"Demon... you are a demon!"
Su Mu walked up to the commander and pierced his throat with a single thrust.
"A demon? You brought this upon yourselves!"
Su Mu hoisted the commander's corpse high and shouted to the surrounding barbarians: "Your commander is dead!"
Seeing this, the remaining barbarians seemed to lose their backbone and began to flee in all directions.
At this point, they had lost all combat capability.
Fear had completely consumed their hearts.
Su Mu’s presence was like a nightmare. They had been utterly broken.
Su Mu sat on a nearby wooden stump, surveying the scene as if judging the victor of the war.
Su Yi appeared behind him and handed him a water skin.
"Master, drink."
Su Mu took the water skin and drank.
His senses began to return.
The slaughter just now had been incredibly draining, even for him. He had lost count of how many barbarians he had killed since the assault began.
Just then, the fighting around them gradually came to an end.
Jiang Hongluan and the others approached with their spears, bowing respectfully to Su Mu.
"Reporting to the Captain! All one thousand barbarians have been wiped out!"
"On our side, three are severely wounded, over ten have light injuries, and there are no fatalities! This battle is a total victory!"
Hearing this, Su Mu frowned and set down the water skin.
"Three severely wounded? It seems the training still isn't ruthless enough..."
