Chapter 48: That Also Depends on Whether I Allow It
After filming the scene between the male and female leads, it was time for the sequence between the male lead and Qianxuan. Bai Yu was visibly excited, rubbing his hands together, with only one thought in his mind—to let these mortals witness the true talent of their young actors.
“All right, all departments, prepare… action!”
With the media following the crew’s lens, the male lead, Tang Lingyun, carried a precious artifact. To prevent it from falling into the wrong hands, he escaped relentlessly, but behind him lay a dead end: either leap off the cliff or surrender. The villain before him smiled maliciously. Just as Tang Lingyun believed his fate was sealed and contemplated throwing the treasure away to perish together, a red silhouette descended from the heavens.
A woman in red, cold and bewitching, with frosty eyes and brows. Her long black hair was tied up with a crimson ribbon, skin as pale as snow, radiantly beautiful, like an immortal fallen from above.
Fu Shiqian’s expression was genuinely stunned, dazed and utterly fitting the shock the scene demanded.
With a mere flick of her hand, she dispatched those who had cornered Tang Lingyun, sending them tumbling off the cliff amid their screams. Yet her gaze remained lowered, betraying no emotion. As the camera zoomed in, a trace of desolation could be seen deep in her eyes.
“Thank you, Lady Hero, for saving my life.”
Tang Lingyun gazed in awe at the beauty before him, thinking his savior must be gentle. Yet the next moment, she gave a smile void of warmth and said, “Saved you?”
Her almond-shaped eyes narrowed, and in the blink of an eye, Tang Lingyun lost consciousness.
The woman in red stepped forward and took the coveted artifact from his arms, gripping it tightly as the warmth in her eyes vanished.
Every line, every glance, every fight sequence—she immersed everyone, as though she had truly traveled across a millennium, encountering the tragic woman bound by fate.
The entire set fell silent until Bai Yu finally called, “Cut!”
Bai Yu’s eyes crinkled with a smile. “Excellent, truly excellent. Yun Fu, take a break; we’ll prepare for the next scene.”
The crew was long accustomed to the director’s preferential treatment; after all, Yun Fu’s acting deserved it.
But the media, witnessing her for the first time, were genuinely stunned.
Each held their cameras mechanically, at a loss for words.
“My god! I have goosebumps! I really thought I watched a damsel save the hero just now.”
“Exactly! That gaze was incredible. The novel describes this scene, and isn’t the artifact hers? Amazing!”
“So helpless yet confused, strong yet fragile—good heavens, she’s Qianxuan straight out of the book. Is Yun Fu’s acting always this superb?”
“Those fight scenes were so complex, yet she nailed them in one take—she’s crushing the competition.”
“I think ‘Stunning Flight’ could explode in popularity just because of her.”
Once they realized what had happened, reporters brandished their cameras, wishing for extra hands to snap more pictures.
They noticed that when the director called “cut,” the cold, distant lady in red immediately shed her aura, returning to her usual lazy, roguish demeanor.
Quick to enter the role, quicker to leave it.
Hearing the praise around her, Ning Lan wished she could tear Yun Fu’s face apart—then Yun Fu would never steal the spotlight again.
It was always the same: wherever Yun Fu was, Ning Lan was relegated to the background.
“Prepare for the next scene!”
The next scene was the one Yun Fu had received last night—a script page specially sent by Qiao An for her to rehearse.
Perhaps because she had gone over it, Yun Fu’s performance was even better than before. Her gaze and movements not only pulled people into the story but also gave the character a soul that transcended the role itself.
Fu Shiqian, a former Best Actor, almost couldn’t keep up with her in their scene together.
It was clear just how powerful her acting was.
“I’m speechless. Yun Fu is a monster!”
“If only all novel adaptations were performed like Yun Fu, our characters would truly ‘come alive’!”
“Exactly—I never imagined a book character could be brought to life so brilliantly. Now I’m really looking forward to ‘Stunning Flight’ airing.”
Next came the confrontation between Yun Fu and Ning Lan. The media’s attention sharpened.
Everyone knew about their previous feuds: best friends turned enemies, stealing lovers, scheming—these were well-known stories.
Both in the same crew, with so many scenes together, how could anyone not be curious?
“All departments, prepare… action!”
At Bai Yu’s command, everyone returned to their roles.
To be fair, Ning Lan’s acting had improved considerably, but when she stood beside Yun Fu, she was naturally overshadowed.
Yun Fu merely glanced at her, and Ning Lan couldn’t carry the scene.
“Ning Lan!” Bai Yu bellowed, “You’re supposed to show admiration for her, but you’re playing hatred!”
It was like a resounding slap across Ning Lan’s face.
Everyone knew about the previous incident; it was only out of concern for her supporters that people kept quiet. But Bai Yu, unexpectedly, showed no mercy and called her out publicly.
Ning Lan swallowed her anger, forcing a smile. “Sorry, Director, sorry everyone. Please give me another chance.”
She looked at Yun Fu, so calm and content, and resentment grew within her.
She gritted her teeth, scheming inwardly.
The director called action again. Yun Fu’s cold voice rang out, “All things in this world are governed by order and law. If you break them, the consequences will be unimaginable.”
Such desolation in her tone.
The character played by Ning Lan showed confusion and determination. “What does it matter if there are rules and laws? If I work hard, I can succeed, can’t I?”
Her hand moved, and out of sight of the camera, she tugged forcefully at Yun Fu’s costume, about to pull it off.
Bai Yu frowned, about to call for a break, when Yun Fu stepped back slightly, reached out, and restored her clothes in a seamless motion.
Her expression turned cold as she took two steps forward, closing in on Ning Lan, and said in a voice only for the two of them, “Success? Only if I allow it!”
Ning Lan recoiled in fright—her presence was too overpowering, sharper than even the villain Qianxuan from the book.
In Yun Fu’s eyes, she glimpsed a fleeting murderous intent.
Her face paled instantly.
“Cut! What’s going on!” Bai Yu’s brows furrowed. “Ning Lan, where are your lines? You can’t even remember two sentences?”
