Volume 1, Chapter 118: Giving Red Envelopes
The first day of the Lunar New Year.
Early in the morning, Wen Xuyu received a red envelope, a rare occurrence in a long time.
"...Is this for me?"
She sat halfway up from the lounge chair, clutching the thin paper packet, surprise flickering in her eyes.
As Milotic opened its mouth, a powerful jet of water surged forth, striking the Magcargo.
The peacock transformed into the likeness of Baili Panghuang and shouted toward Shanwaishan, "Dugu Zhaoqi, do you truly believe this magical artifact is enough to trap me? Think again!" With a flash of five-colored divine light, Baili Panghuang radiated brilliance in every direction.
Lan Rongyue kept her head down, deciding it was safer to play the shrinking violet; she found that a certain someone’s lack of moral boundaries was so profound that she was forced into a constant retreat.
Mother Liang wanted to pursue Pei Long, yet she was anxious about Ji Touzi’s injuries; with a growl of frustration, she spun around and rushed back.
The advent of the Evil Emperor was indeed a scourge upon this mortal world, and the fact that the Great Emperor Xuanyuan had failed to slay him back then remained a lingering regret.
The bird-man known as Ruo E bowed and said, "It is as the Ancestor says." With that, he flapped his wings and retreated.
"Grandmother, I know I was wrong." Hearing Old Lady Ye’s reprimand, Ye Zi spoke with a look of grievance.
Unable to get the grilled fish, the Yundou Roll had no choice but to go catch two plump fish itself. It revealed its true form and dumped the catch in front of Qiu’er. Only then did Qiu’er realize that the monster which had been teasing and bullying her all this time was actually a magnificent, mighty leopard.
"Go." As the Jiao finished speaking, Zhou Tian’s figure, guided by the creature’s control, leapt high into the air. With a light tap of his toes against the rooftop, he turned into a mere blur, darting toward the Zhou residence.
Upon entering the simple yet tidy room, Zhou Tian saw that the meal was already laid out on the table. Beside it sat an elderly man with slightly greying hair; he appeared sickly, yet his eyes carried a certain air of authority as they swept across the room.
After drinking nearly half a pot of water, Xiao Ran finally set it down and let out a sigh, feeling as if he had finally come back to life.
The opportunity was fleeting and had to be seized, but Zheng Junhao also had to strike the right balance; he could not move directly against Ji Xue, or it would be a foul, potentially resulting in an immediate loss.
Jiang Chen’s fist intent flowed incessantly, as if it had taken physical form. Yet, even so, it took only a moment for the skin on his arms to split open and his blood vessels to burst, leaving him drenched in blood.
Watching Butterfly reunite with her kin, Grandpa Hu was already sobbing uncontrollably. His child had grown up, married, and found her own family; even after he was gone, there would be others to protect her and ensure she was never bullied.
The Emperor looked at the few who had stepped forward, then glanced at the courtiers who were keeping their eyes lowered and minding their own business, before finally fixing his gaze on the Prime Minister.
Lü Yaxi, standing to the side, breathed a huge sigh of relief upon hearing this. She had feared that Lin Xi would once again throw herself at him, and she had almost regretted "letting the tiger return to the mountain." She had not expected Lin Xi to be so upright and virtuous—truly a model for their generation!
These were the words the old man spoke to Jiang Chen, but they sounded more like an expression of dissatisfaction toward the existing phenomena of this world.
Jiang Chen immediately turned his head away. There was truth to the idea that one should not look at what is improper; it was something to keep in mind, and even more so, to keep in one's heart.
Afterward, the group ate an early dinner and rested. When the third watch of the night arrived, they changed into night-traveling attire and made their way toward Guiyuan Temple.
She had read the note; although she did not understand what Shen Kuan was doing, the lines of the note already revealed the danger and abnormality hidden within.
"Do you know? I discovered those Dragon Clan guards who went missing today. I’ve done a great service for the Dragon Clan!" The old man smacked his lips.
