Chapter 104: More People Than You?
“Cooperate?”
Chen Ni was a clever girl; she understood at once that if Chai Jin had asked her out, it was surely not for something simple. Her expression turned serious.
Chai Jin began to lay out his plan, piece by piece.
He needed Chen Ni’s team. After all the time he had spent working at the factory, he knew there was a research and development group there, one specifically set up to meet manufacturers’ needs.
Rather than build a team from scratch himself, it would be better to bring Chen Ni along directly.
Chen Ni listened with great attention.
Old Huang and the other two seemed as though they were hearing some heavenly scripture.
A thousand mu of land, and two factories to be built?
The total investment might be one or two hundred million?
The three of them were dizzy the whole time, unable to imagine what kind of powerful boss stood behind the Chai Jin they knew so well.
That was what the three of them were thinking.
...
Just as they were deep in discussion at the night snack stall, a commotion broke out at the Hongchang Electronics Factory.
He Kai stormed out with twenty or thirty people.
The flames of jealousy had already devoured the mind of this utterly brainless rich second generation.
How could he have forgotten that the man who once slapped him in public had appeared again?
Last time I swallowed that humiliation because I had to consider Chen Ni’s face.
Now Chen Ni and I have already fallen out, so there is no need for me to keep pretending to be a decent man.
And besides, you’ve come back and started sweet-talking Chen Ni again.
You think I’m going to put up with that?
You came here on purpose to humiliate me, didn’t you?
Chai Jin did not even remember such a person existed. How could he know that he had become the most hated person in this narrow-minded fool’s entire life?
He wanted to drag Chai Jin down to his knees, then, in front of Chen Ni and everyone else on the street, slap him back one blow at a time.
That was what you called double repayment.
After rushing out, they quickly spotted Chai Jin across the street.
Many people nearby noticed the scene as well.
Seeing that it was this rich young idler, they all understood that there would be entertainment to watch tonight.
So one by one, they gathered around.
Chai Jin had almost finished speaking.
After all, Chen Ni was not a reincarnated soul; it had taken her quite some time to understand what Chai Jin meant by mobile phone.
Her bright eyes fixed on Chai Jin as she asked, “So what you mean is, as long as we develop a phone that is more than half the size of the Big Brother, we can quickly open up the market? Is that what you mean?”
Chai Jin nodded. “That is certain.”
“Whoever frees the user’s hands wins the market.”
“Oh, I see.” Chen Ni nodded thoughtfully.
But she felt that Chai Jin was talking about something far too distant, something of the future.
She said, “I won’t give you an answer yet. Let me go back and think it over carefully, and then I’ll talk to you about it. Is that okay?”
Chai Jin smiled. “No rush. My boss over there can’t move that fast either.”
“All right, Chai Jin, I toast to you.” Chen Ni lifted the glass of juice in her hand and brought it toward him with a boldness that showed she was no less valiant than any man.
She looked playful and charming.
Chai Jin smiled and was just about to return the toast when a large hand shot in from the side.
It slapped the cup from Chai Jin’s hand. “Do you have the right to drink with Nini?”
“Look at what you are!”
In an instant, Su Wenbin sprang to his feet, glaring furiously at He Kai, who had knocked the cup from Chai Jin’s hand.
He Kai’s finger was almost poking Su Wenbin in the nose.
“You sit down, right now. This is not your place to speak!”
The people at the table reacted quickly.
The one who reacted most strongly was Chen Ni. She was furious. We were talking just fine—what are you rushing over here for?
She stared at He Kai with utter coldness. “What do you want?”
Then she noticed that He Kai had brought dozens of security guards from the factory behind him.
Her temper flared even more, and she snapped at those guards, “You have some nerve!”
The air instantly crackled with hostility.
Chai Jin did not stand up. He merely glanced indifferently at the cup on the ground, then tugged on Su Wenbin. “Wenbin, sit down.”
Liu Shan’s face was very unsightly, but he was much calmer than the honest Su Wenbin.
He pulled him back into his seat.
Old Huang seemed not to care at all. He rubbed his slicked-back hair, picked up another cup from the side, refilled Chai Jin’s drink, and said, “Chai Jin, let’s drink.”
Chai Jin nodded, lifted the cup, and took a sip with a profoundly detached attitude.
He Kai saw that even with so many people brought over, Chai Jin was still acting so calm and unruffled, and that only made him angrier.
He slapped the cup from Chai Jin’s hand again. “I’m talking to you. Did you stuff your ears with the pig filth from your village so you can’t hear me?”
This was the first time Chen Ni had ever been so rattled. She was about to speak again, but Chai Jin cut her off and said something that ordinary people would have found hard to understand:
“Nini, do you see what’s going on now?”
Then he pointed at the more than twenty people behind He Kai and said, “Even the factory’s lapdogs no longer take you seriously. You understand what you should do now, don’t you?”
“What did you say? Who are you calling lapdogs?”
“Say that again if you dare. I’ll make sure you don’t live to regret it!”
The moment Chai Jin finished speaking, the more than twenty men behind him could no longer hold back.
It was like a master holding a dog leash; the moment he let go, those vicious hounds would charge in and bite.
He Kai’s temper flared even more. He grabbed Chai Jin by the collar. “You filthy bumpkin, do you think you’re worthy of calling her Nini?”
“Look at you. With that miserable peasant look, you’re nothing but a beggar in my eyes. Understand?”
“Let go!” Liu Shan and Su Wenbin could no longer hold themselves back.
“Let go your damned mother!” He Kai, completely out of control, wheeled around and slapped Liu Shan hard across the face.
And at that moment, no one noticed that Old Huang, the sly old fox who had been drinking just moments before, had vanished without anyone seeing when.
Chai Jin looked at He Kai and let out a rather helpless sigh.
“If you let go now, I might still save you a little face later. If you don’t, then bear the consequences yourself.”
He Kai laughed in fury. “Look at this dog thing!”
“When you were working in my factory, you already liked putting on airs like this. You don’t seriously think I’d still put up with you for this woman, do you?”
As he spoke, he pointed at Chen Ni beside him.
Chen Ni stared at He Kai in stunned disbelief.
For the first time, she felt as though she were meeting the person she had grown up with all over again.
A single thought kept rising in her mind: how could he be this kind of person?
“Calling me a filthy woman?”
The more than twenty lackeys behind him also laughed along in perfect cooperation.
Chai Jin truly felt powerless inside.
When one runs into a brainless rich fool who keeps rubbing himself against you like this, it is hard to know how to even judge him.
He glanced toward the people behind He Kai. “Trying to win by sheer numbers?”
“You’d better have your men turn around and take a look. See whether there are more of them or more of mine.”
At that moment, Old Huang outside had already brought over no fewer than a hundred people, pushing their way through the crowd of onlookers one by one.
He rubbed his slicked-back hair and smiled. “I’ve always liked comparing numbers with other people.”
“Manager He, your twenty-some vicious dogs don’t seem to amount to much against my people. The ratio is a little off, isn’t it?”
