Chapter Forty-Nine: No Hospitality Offered!
Chen Feng was momentarily taken aback, then saw Lin Hang and his father leading a group of twenty or thirty people straight into his small shop.
“Lin Hang?” Chen Feng was surprised. Lin Hang strode over and punched him lightly on the shoulder. “Chen Feng, you’re really something. I helped you out with that recording, did you such a huge favor, and you didn’t even let me know before you left? Not even a phone call?”
Chen Feng replied a bit sheepishly, “It’s not that—I just didn’t have your number!”
Lin Hang grinned. “Forget it! I heard your shop just opened today, so we came over to show our support!” Lowering his voice, he added, “These are all my dad’s business associates. Don’t be shy—give them the full treatment!”
Chen Feng laughed. “You got it!”
The two’s friendship deepened further. Lin Hang no longer harbored any resentment; he was not a bad person by nature, just occasionally muddled. Everyone makes mistakes. That time when Chen Feng helped him had completely dispelled his former prejudices and now Lin Hang felt nothing but genuine admiration for him.
In other words, Chen’s imposing presence had cowed Lin Hang into reverence.
“Old Lin! You brought us here to eat? What’s with this… ‘Urine Beef Balls’—I’ve never seen such an odd name for a dish in real life!” A sharply dressed man surveyed the shop, frowning.
Lin Erli smiled, unhurried. “I don’t see it that way. Relax, am I that unreliable? I guarantee you’ll be satisfied. If you’re not, don’t sign the contract. But if you are—let’s talk about the price again!”
“Haha, Lin Erli, you really…”
The half-joking remark drew hearty laughter—their relationship clearly close enough for casual teasing.
Amidst the laughter, Chen Feng’s family of three leapt into action, rapidly serving bowl after bowl of the signature Urine Beef Balls. In no time at all, jets of creamy white shrimp broth arched through the air, releasing a captivating aroma.
Suddenly, the previously lively shop fell silent. Everyone stopped talking, savoring in silence the profound layers of flavor. The intense taste overwhelmed their senses; for a moment, they were at a loss for words.
Seeing this, Chen Feng smiled. He realized there was nothing more for him to do—these guests were already thoroughly won over by his Urine Beef Balls. From now on, they’d likely crave them whenever they couldn’t get a taste.
Casually opening the Extraction System, Chen Feng noticed his achievement points had changed. From 233, it had increased by six to 239—slightly lower than he’d expected.
Last time, about the same number of people had eaten his Urine Beef Balls, but the achievement points had gone up by over twelve. Now, only six—what was the difference?
Reflecting, Chen Feng frowned slightly, thinking to himself, “Was it because I used the Heavenly Cauldron Kitchen last time and made such a spectacle, earning over fifty achievement points?”
“That’s possible!” he judged inwardly. Last time, the commotion had indeed been huge. Only twenty or thirty people tasted the food, but at least a hundred must have known he’d made it. Even when he left, the aroma still lingered.
“Should I make Urine Beef Balls on site next time?” he pondered. Cooking here was fine, but the space was too cramped for proper display.
“Hmph, turns out you really do know quite a few people!” The owner of the spicy hot pot shop next door snorted coldly, his face sour.
He was neither blind nor stupid; he could tell these people were of unusual status. Just the luxury cars parked outside the shop were more than most could afford. And, of course, he could smell the rich fragrance in the air.
On Sihai Street, a Maserati slowly pulled up in front of the shop. The row of seven or eight luxury cars already attracted a crowd, but the Maserati drew even more attention.
A slender, flawless leg stretched out of the car, and as everyone watched in anticipation, its owner stepped gracefully outside.
A collective gasp swept through the onlookers. Sihai Street was frequented by all walks of life, or tourists at best; the truly elite never set foot here.
She was as lovely as a flower shy before the moon.
She was stunning enough to topple a kingdom.
She possessed a beauty to eclipse an era.
Every gesture and smile made her the brightest jewel in Jiangzhou, dazzling and radiant.
For a moment, everyone stared, dumbfounded, at the extraordinary woman before them, as if gazing at a rare treasure.
With a click, the woman glanced at the sign above Chen Feng’s shop, then walked in with elegant steps.
When she entered the rather shabby shop, it seemed to brighten the whole place. Everyone stared in awe—even Chen Feng was momentarily stunned. He actually knew this woman; though they’d only met once, he recognized her instantly.
A woman this beautiful was impossible to forget.
She was the owner of Tianding Restaurant—Xiao Yu.
“Director Xiao, you’re here!” Lin Erli stood and greeted her.
Xiao Yu returned his greeting gracefully. “How could I not come? You invited me yourself, Mr. Lin. If I didn’t show up, wouldn’t that be rude?”
Her smile was warm and made people feel at ease. The other guests also stood to greet her. They were all high earners, but Xiao Yu was a celebrity entrepreneur in Jiangzhou—a true boss among mere employees.
The middle-aged man who’d been mocking earlier was utterly floored. He suddenly recognized her—Xiao Yu, the pride of Jiangzhou, whose face frequently appeared online and on TV.
Such a person coming to this little rundown shop?
Xiao Yu didn’t spare the man a glance. She sat down at a table near Chen Feng, smiling at him. “Boss, I’d like a serving of your Urine Beef Balls.”
“Of course, please wait a moment!” Chen Feng was a little dazed but quickly recovered, hurrying to serve her a bowl.
Xiao Yu took a spoonful of the beef ball, gently placed it in her mouth, and swallowed it whole. Clearly, she’d learned from experience and didn’t embarrass herself. The manager at Tianding Restaurant had had the foresight to save her a portion before; although frozen and slightly less fresh, the taste was still superb.
Her slow, deliberate chewing appeared flawless and perfect to all watching.
After a long moment, Xiao Yu’s face showed a look of pure delight.
Though not her first tasting, she couldn’t help but silently praise the cook—a true genius. That burst of flavor was truly unforgettable.
“Delicious, absolutely wonderful!” Xiao Yu couldn’t help but exclaim.
Suddenly, the door was flung open. A customer rushed in, inhaled deeply, and shouted, “Boss, I want a serving too! Quickly, bring me one!”
“Me too! Me too!”
In an instant, the tiny shop was packed with eager patrons.
Chen Feng’s parents stood in a daze, momentarily at a loss, stunned by the dramatic contrast between the earlier quiet and the current frenzy.
Chen Feng laughed. “Dad, Mom, what are you waiting for? The customers are here—let’s get to work!”
“Oh, right, let’s serve the customers!” The elderly couple snapped out of it and bustled about, greeting the guests.
Watching all this, a deep smile broke across Chen Feng’s face. In his eyes, these customers weren’t just walking banknotes—they were a stream of sparkling achievement points.
“I want a bowl too!” Suddenly, the hot pot shop owner called out.
“Sorry, you’re not a welcome guest here. We don’t serve you!” Chen Feng replied coldly.
