Chapter 121: The Divine Painting
The crying outside the window drew nearer, growing louder and louder. Apart from being somewhat sharper, the ghost fetus’s cries were no different from those of an ordinary child.
Hearing it, I turned to look at Chen Zhiqiang. His face had already gone deathly pale, entirely drained of color.
The ghost fetus had arrived. Chen Zhiqiang’s identity was bound to be exposed, and Xu Yingying would no longer help him.
Seeing him in such a state, I felt indescribably satisfied. With a look meant to strike at his very heart, I said, “Chen Zhiqiang, I have you to thank for reminding me just now. If you hadn’t reminded me that the ghost fetus was summoned at Dragonhead Canal, I might have forgotten that I could summon your son here and use him to clear my name.”
Before Chen Zhiqiang could say a word, Chen Yetian was already so furious that he blew out his beard and glared. “You brainless fool! How could I have ended up with a grandson like you?”
Chen Zhiqiang was filled with regret, but regret was useless now. The ghost fetus’s cries grew louder and louder as it kept calling, “Daddy, is that you? Are you and Mommy both inside?”
Chen Zhiqiang began to tremble. He turned toward Chen Yetian and said, “Grandfather, please help me!”
Chen Yetian could not have been more disgusted with his only grandson. His face was full of impatience as he spat, “You ungrateful little wretch who’s dragged your own grandfather into this mess. If I’d known, I never should have helped you.”
With that, Chen Yetian strode over to Bai Ranhe and snatched away the box containing the portrait of the Heavenly Master.
Bai Ranhe looked up at him in confusion. “Master Chen, what do you mean by this?”
“I’m borrowing the portrait of the Heavenly Master.”
With that, Chen Yetian began to open the box.
My heart jolted when I saw this. The moment Chen Yetian opened the portrait, both Xu Yingying and her ghost fetus would have their souls scattered.
I hurriedly shouted at Xu Yingying, “Xu Yingying, the box contains a self-portrait of the Heavenly Master! Take it away quickly, or you’ll both be doomed!”
At my warning, an immense aura of murderous evil once again radiated from Xu Yingying’s swollen, rotting face.
“Child’s grandfather, don’t! That is your Chen family’s own flesh and blood!”
After saying this, an even greater wave of murderous energy burst from Xu Yingying. She leaned forward and, in an instant, flew to Chen Yetian. Extending both clawed hands, she reached for the golden-silk nanmu box.
When Xu Yingying addressed Chen Yetian as the child’s grandfather, all the feng shui masters present exchanged bewildered glances. Her words amounted to an admission that I was not the child’s father—Chen Zhiqiang was.
Moreover, from the exchange between Chen Yetian and his grandson, as well as their reactions, everyone could clearly infer the relationship between Xu Yingying and the Chen family.
I had been framed!
Bai Ranhe’s expression as he looked at me became even more complicated. For a moment, he did not know what to say to me.
“Ah!”
A shrill scream rang out. Accompanied by a sizzling sound, the smell of charred flesh reached my nose. I turned toward Chen Yetian.
The instant Xu Yingying’s palm touched the black box containing the divine portrait, it began to rot at a visible speed, releasing waves of foul smoke.
“Ah!”
From a distance, I could see that Xu Yingying’s hand had rotted so badly that the white bones beneath were exposed. Her face was twisted with agony, yet she still refused to let go, determined to seize the portrait.
Outside the window, I could already see the shadow of the ghost fetus in its red cloth bib. Once it entered, Chen Yetian would open the portrait of the Heavenly Master, and the poor child’s soul would be scattered as well.
Thinking of this, I shouted toward the window, “Little ghost, don’t come in!”
“Mommy! Mommy! You’re not allowed to hurt my mommy!”
Seeing his mother suffering inside the hall, the ghost fetus outside cried even more miserably.
Although the baby had been born only half a month earlier, it could already speak. This astonished me greatly. Perhaps the growth cycle of a spirit fetus was different from that of a human child.
“Go to hell!”
Taking advantage of the moment, Chen Zhiqiang kicked Xu Yingying in the stomach and sent her flying. With a thunderous crash, she slammed into the wall.
The murderous energy within her had been exhausted while she struggled to seize the divine object. She had no strength left at all, and now she lay on the floor, unable even to crawl.
“Mom!”
Seeing this, the ghost fetus outside could no longer heed my warning. With a thunderous bang, it crashed through the window and threw itself into Xu Yingying’s arms.
Looking at the child of the Chen family, Chen Yetian and Chen Zhiqiang wore complicated expressions. For a moment, both men stood frozen where they were.
