Because it was located in the heart of the city, there was no shortage of upscale restaurants around Changqing First High, and Wei Dong originally wanted to find a classy place with a pleasant atmosphere, book a private room, and enjoy a quiet meal with the four of them chatting at leisure. Yet, under the strong opposition of Yang Cheng and Pan Weiwei, he could only yield and ended up choosing one of those inexpensive but highly praised eateries near the school—a place called Taipei One Plus One Restaurant.

Wei Dong wasn’t afraid to spend money, but the two young women felt genuinely embarrassed to let their host spend too much. Taipei One Plus One had excellent food and reasonable prices; for four people, as long as they didn’t drink, the bill would be around a hundred, which fit the price range the girls could tolerate. Still, this left Wei Dong somewhat disgruntled... It was rare for him to have an opportunity to treat Pan Weiwei to a meal, yet he couldn’t show off his greatest advantage. It was a rather depressing matter, especially since, before this, Wei Dong had tried countless ways to get closer to Pan Weiwei, exhausting every method he could think of, but had never managed to invite her out, not even once. Frustrated, he’d spent the past year venting his excess energy elsewhere.

Often, inviting someone to dinner wasn’t easy.

A good novel begins with Chapter 38: “Women—Inner Qualities Matter Most!”

Today, thanks to Qin Anyi, he finally got to interact closely with the goddess of his dreams, but he still couldn’t display his financial prowess. Naturally, Wei Dong felt a bit gloomy.

“What’s wrong, Wei Dong? You don’t seem very happy,” Pan Weiwei asked, puzzled.

“Don’t mind him. He’s got a masochistic streak—if he can’t spend his own money, he gets terribly upset,” Qin Anyi teased with a laugh.

Taipei One Plus One had no private rooms; all the tables were set in a large hall. Arriving early, the four found a corner and sat down. Pan Weiwei was carefree by nature, but Yang Cheng preferred quiet, and whenever the two were together, Pan Weiwei always adapted to Yang Cheng’s habits. Even the closest friends have differences, but what makes a best friend is not perfect harmony, but the ability to accept and accommodate all of each other's flaws.

“Anyi, thank you so much for what you did the other night. Without you, the consequences would’ve been unimaginable. Even now, just thinking about that night gives me chills,” Yang Cheng said apologetically, feeling guilty that Wei Dong was hosting tonight when she felt she should have made the gesture.

“That’s right, Anyi. Yangyang has been singing your praises these past two days. I didn’t witness the events of that night myself, but she’s told me everything in detail. She said you took on five people single-handedly and settled things in one move?” Pan Weiwei looked at Qin Anyi with admiration. “I didn’t believe it at first, thought Yangyang was exaggerating, but after seeing you put Fang Hao in his place this afternoon, I know she wasn’t lying. I’m really curious—how did you do it?”

Wei Dong sat beside Qin Anyi, his face forlorn, casting a pitiful glance at him. To see his goddess so interested in his best friend was hardly ideal.

“It’s really nothing. Didn’t the Chairman say that all reactionaries are paper tigers? They’re just ordinary people, and the reason they seem formidable is that everyone fears them. If you can rid yourself of fear, you’ll see their true nature,” Qin Anyi replied, brushing it off.

“Alright, alright, if you don’t want to say, that’s fine. You boys are all full of secrets, not nearly as straightforward as us girls. Still, don’t worry—I’m interested in you, but only out of curiosity. Yangyang likes you, so I won’t develop any other feelings toward you,” Pan Weiwei said, pursing her lips suddenly.

Her words caught Yang Cheng off guard, and her face flushed deep red, growing tense as she hurried to wave her hands, just about to speak, when a woman’s voice floated over.

“Well, well, isn’t this Yangyang? What a coincidence! Who’d have thought I’d run into you just going out for a meal. What, did you arrange this on purpose?” Yang Cheng instinctively turned her head, and her expression instantly stiffened, lowering her head with a quiet murmur, saying no more.

“Yang Cheng, what’s with that attitude? No manners at all. Yes, your ex dumped you to chase after me, but that’s just how things happen—I never stirred up any trouble. If you couldn’t keep your man, that’s your own fault, so don’t take it out on me,” Qin Anyi turned to see a girl with a decent figure and a victor’s air, walking over with another girl beside her.

“Yangyang, who are these two?” Qin Anyi feigned curiosity, as if he hadn’t caught the hostility in her tone.

“Zhao Yang, class leader of Class Six, my junior and... also my ex-boyfriend,” Yang Cheng said quietly after glancing at the boy. “The one beside him is his classmate, Lu Feifei.”

“So you’re a senior—I’ve heard so much about you,” Qin Anyi suddenly stood up enthusiastically, wearing an exaggerated smile as he extended his hand toward Zhao Yang.

Zhao Yang was momentarily bewildered, instinctively shaking Qin Anyi’s hand, still not quite processing it. “Senior? What senior?”

“Yangyang is my girlfriend now, and you’re her ex. That makes you my senior, doesn’t it? Really, I should thank you for your generosity—if you hadn’t let go, I’d never have had a chance with someone as wonderful as Yangyang,” Qin Anyi laughed heartily, feeling quite pleased.

Yang Cheng was dumbstruck; she hadn’t expected Qin Anyi to say such a thing so suddenly.

“Wow, Yangyang’s such a petite girl and so popular? You men have increasingly strange tastes these days,” Lu Feifei scoffed, arching her back with some disdain.

She nodded fiercely, and Zhao Yang bit his lip, saying, “Fine, let’s all go together then…”
