Chapter Forty-Two: Are You Jealous?

“Brother Fei… what exactly… what’s going on here?” Staring blankly as Qin Anyi and his companions strode away, Zhao Yang finally snapped back to his senses and asked with trepidation.
“What’s going on! You’re asking me what’s going on! You almost got me killed!” Now that Qin Anyi was out of sight, Brother Fei finally let out a long breath. Then, hearing Zhao Yang’s question, he instantly found a place to vent his pent-up anger.
“Huh? Brother Fei… what do you mean by that? How could I… how could I have hurt you?” Zhao Yang stammered, his mind a complete mess, still unable to grasp the situation.
“What do I mean!? Let me ask you! Those four people you brought with you just now—what’s your relationship with them?” Brother Fei glared at Zhao Yang, his eyes menacing. It was clear that if Zhao Yang said the wrong thing, he’d immediately lash out.
Just now, in front of everyone, he’d been forced to slap himself in the face. Brother Fei was burning with rage, but while Qin Anyi was present, he hadn’t dared show even a hint of dissatisfaction. After all, that fiend was the kind of person who, on a whim, might send him to the hospital for months.
Faced with such an overwhelming gap in power, Brother Fei hadn’t dared to resist. But now that Qin Anyi had left, there was no need for such caution. He needed someone to vent his anger on.
“They’re… all my classmates, I guess… The shortest girl, she was my first love, but now she’s someone else’s girlfriend,” Zhao Yang replied, though he knew something was off, he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
“Classmates? Are you out of your mind, Zhao Yang?! Classmates? That guy is clearly your enemy! And of all people to make enemies with, you picked that monster! Do you even know your own limits? Worst of all, you dragged me into this mess!” The more he spoke, the angrier Brother Fei got. Without thinking, he raised his foot and kicked Zhao Yang hard in the stomach.
“Ah!” Zhao Yang was caught completely off guard by the blow, crying out in pain as he staggered back several steps, clutching his stomach, barely managing to keep his footing. He looked at Brother Fei in terror, at a loss for words.
“Damn it, what rotten luck! Why did I have to get mixed up in something so messed up today! Zhao Yang, just squat there and stay out of trouble!” Brother Fei cursed, giving Zhao Yang another kick, sending him stumbling again. Then he turned to Lü Feifei, who was still lost in her own world, and put on a smile.
“Feifei, it’s your boyfriend’s fault for being clueless. For your sake, I won’t make things too hard on him. Let him squat there and learn his lesson—it’s for his own good, so he knows not to provoke the wrong people in the future. Come, have a drink with me. It’s been a few days, and you’re looking more beautiful than ever.”
“Brother Fei, you’re flattering me again. I’m nothing special. Zhao Yang really doesn’t know any better, please forgive him. I’ll drink to you.” Lü Feifei recovered and picked up a half-full glass of Chivas Regal from the table, downing it in one go. Her cheeks flushed, her eyes grew hazy, and she leaned softly against Brother Fei on the sofa, curiosity in her voice.
“Brother Fei, who was that person just now, anyway? I get the feeling… you’re afraid of him? He should be a student at our school too, right? You don’t need to treat him with such respect, do you?”
“Who? Actually, I don’t know him at all, not even his name…” Brother Fei grunted twice, slipping an arm around Lü Feifei’s shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze. “Feifei, do you know Brother Jie?”
“Brother Jie? I’ve heard of him, he’s supposed to be the boss around here, isn’t he?” Despite Brother Fei’s arm around her, Lü Feifei showed no sign of displeasure. She didn’t even glance at her boyfriend squatting nearby; all her attention was on digging into Qin Anyi’s background.
“You do know a lot, Feifei,” Brother Fei chuckled, quite pleased with the softness beneath his hand. “That’s right, he’s the boss of this area. But the day before yesterday, in the afternoon, Brother Jie took over a dozen of us to ambush that kid you just saw. Guess what happened?”
“What happened?”
“We were all taken out in seconds! Didn’t even get a hit in—Brother Jie is still in the hospital, and the doctors say he’ll need at least a month or two to recover. I was lucky, only lightly injured, but I was knocked out cold for a while before coming to.” Brother Fei shuddered at the memory. “Anyway, that kid is definitely not someone to mess with. If you can avoid him, do it at all costs.”
“That… he’s really that strong…” Lü Feifei couldn’t hide her shock. To take down over a dozen people at once, in a single exchange—just how strong did he have to be? It wasn’t like in the movies…
It’s not that Lü Feifei had fallen for Qin Anyi in just a few hours, but she did find him impressive. If she could become his girlfriend, it would surely be something to brag about! People’s shallowness is often beyond reason.
Unconsciously, Lü Feifei imagined a scene where someone like Brother Fei followed her around with a sycophantic grin, and the thought filled her with an inexplicable thrill.
Qin Anyi arrived at Wang Yiran’s house by taxi around 7:30 p.m. That ten-thousand-yuan card Wang Yiran had given him had suddenly made life much easier. But if he wanted to leave the money with his family in a reasonable way, he’d have to put some thought into it. He knew well that with his parents’ personalities, if they didn’t know the source of the money, they’d never use it.
He explained his business at the gate, and after the security guard confirmed with Wang Yiran by phone, he was allowed in. In such a high-end villa community, security was extremely strict—the residents were all wealthy or influential, so nothing could be left to chance.
Qin Anyi had the keys to Wang Yiran’s villa, so he entered without hindrance. The house was still as lifeless as ever. Without lingering, he headed straight to the basement, only to find Wang Yiran already drenched in sweat, deep in training.
Seeing Qin Anyi finally appear, Wang Yiran paused her rapid kicks, her face showing little expression as she said, “Thirty minutes late. You must have enjoyed your meal so much you lost track of time?”
Qin Anyi was a bit embarrassed and couldn’t find a good explanation. He scratched his head. “Something happened—Yang Cheng is a bit soft-hearted, so I helped her make a decision.”
“So should I call you Lei Feng now? I’m paying you a salary to be my coach, so from seven to nine every night, you belong to me. You’re half an hour late today, so you’ll finish at nine-thirty. Go change your clothes in the locker room—wearing that outfit of yours will only get in the way during training.” Wang Yiran’s tone and expression hardly changed, but Qin Anyi sensed something different.
“Hey… you’re not jealous, are you?” Qin Anyi stood still, blurting out the question without thinking.
Wang Yiran’s body stiffened, but only for a moment before she resumed her rapid kicks, completely ignoring his question…
