Chapter Ten: Blocked at the Door
The gate of Changqing No. 1 High School was bustling at dismissal time. Besides the thousands of students trickling out, there were also numerous parents waiting in private cars to pick up their children. As the best high school in Changqing City, it naturally gathered students from every kind of family background—many of them affluent or influential. This was evident from the wide street outside the school, lined with private vehicles, ranging from Chevrolets worth some hundred and fifty thousand to Porsche Cayennes costing over a million. At this very moment, as Wang Yiran and Qin Anyi walked out of the gate shoulder to shoulder, they had already drawn much attention and discussion from nearby students.
Suddenly, a voice filled with resentment shouted out, catching the ears of almost everyone present. Qin Anyi followed the sound and saw a group of more than ten youths with buzz cuts approaching him aggressively. Leading them was the very same Black-skinned A Si whom Qin Anyi had thoroughly beaten the night before.
The previously crowded school gate immediately opened up a wide space, as the students, intimidated by the group’s imposing presence, spontaneously scattered and kept their distance, watching with curiosity. Only Wang Yiran remained calm and unmoved, standing beside Qin Anyi with an unchanged expression on her face.
“So it’s you? You’re the one who hurt my people?” The muscular, fierce-looking leader and his group encircled Qin Anyi.
Qin Anyi’s heart was unaffected. He didn’t even look at the leader, instead smiling at Black-skinned A Si and asking, “Have you paid back the money yet?”
In the past, being suddenly surrounded by more than ten unsavory types would have left Qin Anyi extremely nervous, possibly even weak at the knees. But now… his physical condition was different.
Some students and parents from Changqing No. 1 who were nearby exchanged bewildered glances. A few students hurried back into the school, intending to inform the administration. The gatehouse guard quickly picked up the internal phone. A student from Changqing No. 1 being taken away by a group of thugs at the school gate was no trivial matter. Among the students attending Changqing No. 1, some came from terrifyingly powerful families. If student safety couldn’t be guaranteed at the school gate, who knew how furious those prominent figures with children at the school would become? Even the principal, a vice-department level official because of the school’s special status, might not be able to withstand such outrage.
