Chapter 124: Barbecue Dinner

Under Mo Fei’s expressionless gaze, Bai Yingxiong slowly schooled his own features as well.
“So, in other words, you’re unwilling?”
“Money can never all be earned. I honestly don’t understand why someone like you would take such a risk,” Mo Fei said sincerely.
As far as he was concerned, having enough money was all that mattered. Once you were dead, you couldn’t take it with you.
There was really no need to make money by feeding on other people’s blood.
Bai Yingxiong gave a cold snort. “Once the bow is drawn, there’s no turning back. As long as you’re willing to cooperate, I can give you anything you want.”
Mo Fei raised a hand. “I want world peace.”
Bai Yingxiong: “...”
If this man wasn’t genuinely stupid, then he was really, truly stupid.
His expression darkened at once. “Are you making fun of me?”
“Not exactly.” Mo Fei lowered his hand. “I really do hope for world peace, and that all slave owners will drop dead.”
His expression could not have been more sincere. “This has been in our minds for a hundred years. It can’t be changed.”
Bai Yingxiong studied him and took a sip of tea. “Golden Tooth has canceled your inn booking. Why don’t you stay here for the night?”
The villa was large enough, with plenty of guest rooms.
Though he claimed to be inviting them to stay, in reality he was simply placing them under another form of control.
“Xiao Bai,” Bai Yingxiong called.
Xiao Bai, who had been standing at the perimeter, answered and came inside.
“You’re responsible for taking good care of our guests. Tomorrow, take them to have a look around the company.”
After saying this, Bai Yingxiong smiled at Mo Fei and the others. “You’ve come from so far away. I must do my duty as host.”
Mo Fei nearly burst out laughing.
Aside from anything else, the machine guns filling the courtyard and the two cannons were clearly not decorations. Nor were all those people.
Unless all three of them were special forces operatives, escaping by force would be extremely difficult.
Long Two and Long Four might manage it, but Mo Fei certainly could not.
He had never killed anything in his life, apart from swatting mosquitoes.
Now Long Two and Long Four were filled with regret—deep regret that they had not covered Mo Fei’s mouth.
For ordinary people, the more they knew, the less likely Bai Yingxiong was to let them go.
If Mo Fei really learned too much, then in the end, as long as he refused to cooperate, Bai Yingxiong might bury him in the plantation and use him as fertilizer.

Xiao Bai led them through the villa with a cold expression.
“You may only move around on the first floor. Every room has its own bathroom. If you’re hungry, call someone.” He brought the three of them to the guest-room doors and pointed. “These three.”
“Wait. I have a question.” Mo Fei called out to stop him.
Xiao Bai turned around with the dead-eyed look of a fish. “What?”
Mo Fei asked solemnly, “Can I order food?”
The local cuisine wasn’t bad, but he was craving spicy hot pot, grilled fish, and tomato scrambled eggs.
Preferably scrambled eggs without any curry flavor.
Xiao Bai’s face remained slack as he gave a grunt and turned away.
Mo Fei did not understand. He turned to Long Two and asked, “What does that mean? Can’t I cook for myself?”
The answer that had been on Long Two’s lips abruptly changed. “I suppose you can.”
Long Four looked at him in astonishment, having never expected her brother to give such an answer.
Long Two thought for a moment. “I’ll speak with them later and try to secure permission for you to use the kitchen.”
“That would be wonderful.” Mo Fei brightened. “I’ll make barbecue for you both.”
Long Four did not believe Mo Fei’s barbecue would be edible, but she saw Long Two swallow.
Neither she nor Long Two was particularly devoted to food, yet seeing him react that way made her suddenly curious.
By nightfall, Mo Fei had indeed won the right to barbecue.
The side effect was that Bai Yingxiong had to join them.
Since all the ingredients came from the villa, he had no fear that Mo Fei would poison him.
Watching Mo Fei expertly cut the meat, thread it onto skewers, light the fire, season it, and brush it with oil, Bai Yingxiong smiled with considerably more sincerity.
“I wonder if everyone with extraordinary skills knows how to grill skewers.”
Mo Fei flipped the meat and took the opportunity to ask, “What do you mean? Are there other people with extraordinary skills?”
“You’ve met one of them.” Bai Yingxiong’s words once again carried an ulterior meaning. “Li Momo. Momo.”
“I even asked her to come over. Isn’t she here yet?”
At this, Xiao Bai stepped forward. “Sister Momo said there was a minor problem at the factory. She’ll come over once it’s been dealt with.”
Bai Yingxiong nodded. “Good.”
Mo Fei raised his brows as he brushed the meat with oil.
It seemed that Li Momo was indeed one of Bai Yingxiong’s most valued subordinates.
That explained why, after only a few encounters, Bai Yingxiong had launched such an extensive investigation into him and even sent someone to make contact.

However, whether Bai Yingxiong or Li Momo, neither was the most important thing to Mo Fei right now.
What mattered most was getting away and making it back home.
The best outcome would be to escape while causing Bai Yingxiong a great deal of trouble. The second-best would be to get away safely. The worst would be to make a scene, then leave wounded.
Mo Fei naturally wanted either the best or the second-best outcome, but both depended on luck.
He sighed and continued grilling the meat.
In another city, a group of people sat around a barbecue stall, eating to their hearts’ content.
Madam Qian bit into a piece of grilled gizzard and called out to Lu Chunqiu in confusion. “What are you looking at? Eat.”
“The movie will be ready for release soon. We’re almost at the point where we can see the results. Don’t be so nervous.”
Lu Chunqiu shook her head. “It’s not because of the movie. Little Fei still hasn’t sent me a message to say he’s safe today.”
“Why did that Director Wang have to run off to a place like that just to make a movie?” Lu Chunqiu stared fixedly at her phone.
Young Qian, overhearing them, added, “Speaking of that, Ma He and Ji Xingyu went to Cloud City a couple of days ago. They said they ran into Mo Fei and even spoke with him.”
Lu Chunqiu immediately perked up and leaned over. “They met him? How was he? Wasn’t he missing any arms or legs, was he?”
“No.” Young Qian recalled what Ma He had said. “They ran into an incredibly enthusiastic local guide. After going off to chat and drink with him, they happened to meet Mo Fei.”
“Mo Fei looked to be in pretty good shape—radiant, even.”
After finishing, Young Qian nodded firmly.
“I see.” Lu Chunqiu let out a sigh of relief. “Looks like that boy is fine after all.”
Madam Qian nodded as well and handed her a skewer of pork belly. “He’s a grown man. Doesn’t he know what he should and shouldn’t say? You shouldn’t worry so much.”
“If that idiot were just a little more normal, I wouldn’t be worried.” Lu Chunqiu took a bite and sighed gloomily. “I’m afraid he’ll get carried away and start talking nonsense out there again.”
“There’s no one out there to pull him back.”
“That won’t happen.” Young Qian thought Lu Chunqiu’s concern was completely unfounded. “Mo Fei has always been good with words. His emotional intelligence isn’t low at all. I find him very easy to get along with.”
Lu Chunqiu froze.
Was he talking about their own hopelessly reckless boy?
Madam Qian froze as well. “I suddenly feel that Mo Fei running off might not be safe after all.”
A mother knew her own son’s temperament. After hearing Young Qian praise Mo Fei as easy to get along with, Madam Qian had already begun to worry.
