Chapter 138: The Little Firecracker of the Mortal Realm
Long Er felt that Director Wang hiring a bodyguard for Mo Fei was the single most correct decision he had ever made. The man had no major flaws; aside from his brain occasionally misfiring, he was just like any other normal person. However, the guy had absolutely no sense of direction.
On the way to the gunpowder warehouse, Long Er had to correct their route no fewer than five times. He had no doubt that without his guidance, Mo Fei would never have made it across the border—mainly because Mo Fei couldn't even tell which way the border was. Mo Fei felt quite aggrieved by this. In his home city, he was sharp as a tack; he knew every alleyway like the back of his hand. He never expected to become completely directionally challenged the moment he went abroad. Still, Mo Fei believed that with a little time to explore, he would eventually master this territory too. But for now, with time being of the essence, he would just have to rely on the GPS.
Long Er was highly efficient. Comparing the coordinates he had previously marked, he successfully led Mo Fei back to the warehouse. There were quite a few guards, but Long Er was better. In particular, because Long Er had the element of surprise, he didn't even need to draw his gun; a single dagger was enough to take out all the militiamen patrolling the perimeter. Many of them didn't even realize what was happening before Long Er snapped their necks and gently laid them on the ground. Only in these moments did he appear somewhat tender—a tenderness reserved for the dead. He truly lived up to the movies; the films didn't exaggerate at all.
Mo Fei calculated that in less than ten minutes, Long Er had taken out over a dozen armed militiamen. It was much slower than his pace on the battlefield, but still lethal; every strike was fatal, sparing them any unnecessary suffering. After clearing the guards, Long Er double-checked the area to ensure no one was left, then signaled to Mo Fei, "Come out."
The two pried open the warehouse door. Mo Fei looked around and found the inventory was lower than before. It seemed Bai Yingxiong hadn't been idle during this time. Still, the remaining quantity was sufficient. Mo Fei did some warm-ups and rotated his wrists. "Watch closely." Like a farmer picking out the best radishes in the field, he rummaged through the shelves and returned to the workbench with a pile of materials.
"Don't you need protective gear?" Long Er asked, eyeing the dangerous goods; he felt that one wrong move could lead to an explosion.
Mo Fei, wielding his [Demolition Expert] skill, wasn't fazed at all. "Just wait and see."
Long Er saw that he was insistent and said no more. Mo Fei skillfully mixed potassium chlorate with hemp oil and added some TNT, beginning to shape the explosives without even testing for stability. Generally, using plastic or metal casings for explosives creates the most lethality, as fragments can wound enemies upon detonation. However, Mo Fei had a different purpose for this batch. He had Long Er find a box, leave one side open, and press a spherical explosive—only one-third the size of the box—into it.
Seeing the structure, Long Er understood immediately. "Concentrating the blast on one side—is this for breaching doors?"
"I have a feeling we'll definitely need it later," Mo Fei said, his hands moving non-stop as he began crafting detonators. Actually, he felt this step was entirely unnecessary. Long Er’s marksmanship was so good that he could just shoot the explosive once it was set. But life is unpredictable; Mo Fei couldn't be sure—what if they got separated? He had to have a backup plan. Mo Fei cobbled together four or five of these explosives and tucked a few smaller ones onto his person just in case. Before leaving, fearing that he wouldn't be able to destroy the whole warehouse, he arranged seven or eight blocks of explosives in a line inside and out.
Long Er stood several dozen meters away and fired his pistol at the outermost one. One exploded, and then they all exploded in a chain reaction, blowing into the warehouse and resulting in an earth-shattering roar. Long Er shielded Mo Fei and dived to the ground, and only after the shockwave passed did the two stand up.
"With a blast this big, they'll be here soon!" Mo Fei shouted, rubbing his ears. "Do you know the way to the place Bai mentioned?!"
Long Er, also frowning and shaking his head, replied, "I do!"
"Get in the car!"
The vehicle was one they had seized from Bai Yingxiong’s men, and Long Er knew how to drive. In fact, he drove exceptionally well. No matter how bumpy the road was or how fast they went, the car never flipped. As for the route, if Mo Fei hadn't been sitting in the passenger seat, he wouldn't have believed a car could pass through such terrain. This driving style reminded him of an old acquaintance. When he got back, he would definitely have to ask if Little Ji and Long Er had taken their driving tests at the same place—they both drove as if their passengers didn't exist. The biggest advantage of driving like this was that it was absolutely fast.
According to Long Er, they would reach their target in at most five hours.
"If everything goes according to plan, this will be the medical ship's last voyage of the year. If there are no ships at the port when we arrive, we'll head back." Long Er said with a straight face, "When we get there, we must keep a low profile, understand?"
Mo Fei gripped the door handle tightly, shaking as he gave an "OK" gesture. He knew what he was doing. Even if the ship was still there, he hadn't planned on overthrowing the entire crew; he just wanted to find Li Momo, pry open Bai's mouth, and take those people home. Causing a scene in the Golden Triangle would likely result in them being hunted by everyone. Blending in quietly to find them was the only way.
Neither the imprisoned Li Momo nor Officer Xiao Xu expected that someone was actually heading in their direction; they were still trying to figure out how to leave clues for anyone who might follow. It was, in a sense, a mutual pursuit.
On the other end, things were not going as smoothly for Long Four, who was bringing Bai back to the country. The Myanmar side was repatriating people in batches via buses, and the officers at every border point were overwhelmed. Bai was a wounded man and received extra attention, but when Long Four reported that they had important information to disclose, the news got passed around between officers from various jurisdictions due to the chaotic scene.
"Clues about an undercover operative?" Old Tang, who had come to collect people, pricked up his ears at the mention of an undercover agent. "I'll go take a look; you all carry on."
As he spoke, he approached the local Yuncheng officer to listen to Long Four’s report. When they heard that an undercover operative had sacrificed their life, every officer’s expression turned grim.
"Can you confirm that what you're saying is fact and not hearsay?" the officer in charge asked seriously.
Long Four hoisted the half-dead Bai and shook him. "This guy is a close lackey of Bai Yingxiong. He said he saw it with his own eyes."
Hearing the name Bai Yingxiong, the officer in charge understood the gravity of the situation. However, he couldn't help but look at Bai with surprise. "Is he still alive?"
Bai's face was deathly pale, his hands were covered in blood, and his eyes were closed; he appeared to have lost consciousness.
"Ambulance! Emergency, emergency!" the officer in charge shouted loudly. If what Long Four said was true, this person was a vital witness who had to be saved. Even if he wasn't a vital witness, he still had to be saved!
