Chapter 90: Mr. Chu, if you have goods, do think of us first!
General Manager Wu was genuinely astonished.
The fine white ambergris their usual channels had supplied them before was already the very best on the market.
Yet the ambergris incense before him was somehow even more alluring in fragrance; the first whiff alone was enough to draw a person in.
“Come, all of you, smell this incense,” General Manager Wu said, his face full of astonishment as he set the burner on the table between them. A seductive, delicate fragrance was already drifting outward.
General Managers Li, Hu, and Lu also caught that enticing scent, and all three were likewise startled.
“This ambergris smells better than the one we used to buy.”
“Yes, the old one didn’t have fragrance of this caliber!”
“...”
In only a moment, the four of them were thoroughly stunned. Soon after, a peculiar sensation followed, as though their whole beings had grown much calmer, and some of the irritation in their hearts had vanished at once.
Even the pressure certain matters had been weighing on them seemed to ease.
Most importantly, the effect was clearly even better than what they had used before.
That much they could feel.
They had no doubt that in this state of focused calm, with their spirits relaxed and their burdens lifted, they would handle matters far better than usual.
The four of them could not help exchanging glances, all of them brimming with delight.
This fine white ambergris brought by Mr. Chu was absolutely better than what they had bought before.
Even they found it hard to believe.
They had been dealing with ambergris for a long time. The ambergris they had bought before was already of the finest grade, the best on the market.
They had also experienced fine ambergris owned by other wealthy men, and it was about the same as what they had used before. They had never seen anything of such superior quality.
“Mr. Chu, the quality of your white ambergris is extraordinary,” General Manager Wu praised him, beaming, before asking impatiently, “Are you selling all of this?”
The previous quality was already exceedingly rare, and now what stood before them was even better.
He knew very well that if he missed this chance, he would not get another.
Chu Lin smiled. “I brought this white ambergris out precisely to sell it.”
“That’s wonderful. Mr. Chu, we’ll take it all. How about six thousand per gram?” General Manager Wu said without the slightest hesitation, even raising the price by a thousand per gram.
Fine ambergris on the market sold for five thousand per gram. According to Bafang Guest’s information, the other party had also quoted five thousand per gram, and he could have bought it at that price.
But if the other party had more of this white ambergris later, and word got out, people would surely be raising prices to fight over it.
It would be better to add a thousand per gram now and leave a good impression.
“Then let’s do as General Manager Wu says,” Chu Lin replied. He had not expected the other side to raise the price.
Still, he could guess their intention.
And besides, ambergris that had originally been expected to bring in seven and a half million could now sell for nine million. No matter who it was, they would feel good about that.
With the price settled, all that remained was the transaction. Such a contract was drawn up by Bafang Guest as the third party; since the price had changed, they only needed to revise the amount and print a fresh copy.
Soon, both sides had completed the signing.
“Mr. Chu, I’ve already had finance send the payment. It should arrive very soon,” General Manager Wu said. Then, with a trace of anticipation, he asked, “Mr. Chu, may I ask whether you may have more ambergris of this quality in the future?”
General Managers Li, Hu, and Lu also turned to Chu Lin, their gazes expectant.
These three catties of ambergris amounted to fifteen hundred grams. If they were used to make incense powder, and if the effects were not to be compromised, they could only make about three thousand grams total—seven hundred and fifty grams each.
Used sparingly, three or four grams a day would last a while.
But anyone who had ever used it knew that it was not something one could truly conserve.
Especially when busy and under heavy pressure, working from morning until night, it would not be impossible to burn ten grams in a day.
So if used lavishly, this batch would last at most a few months.
And after that?
Chu Lin had already anticipated that they would ask this, and he smiled. “After some time, I should have another two catties of this grade of white ambergris.”
He did not say more. If he brought out two catties at a time, then the remaining ten catties could be sold in five more rounds.
And if the Atlantis map refreshed the ambergris again, there would naturally be even more.
But even hearing that there would be two catties was enough to make the eyes of the four men light up.
This meant that Mr. Chu truly did have a channel for ambergris of this quality.
For them, that was excellent news.
General Manager Wu immediately said, “Mr. Chu, when you get more stock, you must keep it for us.”
“This deal has been a pleasant one. Next time, I’ll let General Manager Wu know first,” Chu Lin said with a smile. He did not mind making that promise, because it was, in effect, earning a small favor from General Manager Wu.
Never underestimate a favor like that. As long as nothing too excessive was asked and something came up, one phone call would be enough for General Manager Wu to handle it.
And if the other party kept wanting this white ambergris, then each time would become another such small favor.
As the saying goes, you buy the goods and still owe a favor.
“I’ll remember Mr. Chu’s words,” General Manager Wu said, smiling from ear to ear.
See? This was the benefit of raising the price by a thousand per gram.
He immediately went on, “Mr. Chu, since our transaction has gone so well, tonight I’ll have a table arranged. Let’s all have a simple meal together.”
“I’ll follow General Manager Wu’s arrangements,” Chu Lin said, not refusing.
Not long after, his bank card received a transfer notification:
“The amount of 9,000,000.00 yuan has been credited to the account ending in ... Balance: 18,710,138.15 yuan.”
Yesterday, after ordering the automated feeding equipment for the production line and paying the deposit, he had just fallen out of the millionaire ranks. Today, he was a millionaire again.
That evening, General Manager Wu had his company arrange a private restaurant in a well-known dining house in the district.
He even had two company directors bring a few public relations girls to keep everyone company.
As the PR girls for a company of that caliber, their looks and figures were all excellent. Their voices were pleasant, and they were good with words. Before the dishes even arrived, they had already made the atmosphere quite lively.
“Manager Wang, thank you as well for helping bring this deal together,” General Manager Wu said at the table, not forgetting Wang Yang. Then he produced a bottle of black-labeled liquor and said, “I brought a good bottle with me. Later we’ll have a proper drink, and Mr. Chu too—we should have a couple of drinks together. You promised us, after all: when you have stock, you must think of us first.”
The directors and PR girls seated nearby all looked at Chu Lin with curiosity. They had clearly caught the meaning behind their chairman’s casual remark: the real guest of honor at this meal was this young man.
And it seemed their chairman was the one who needed something from him.
Looking at the liquor in General Manager Wu’s hand, Chu Lin thought of the hundred catties of medicinal bone wine he had brewed himself. General Manager Wu and the others seemed to be in their forties, already entering middle age, so they were likely beginning to have a few ailments of their own.
With that in mind, he smiled and said, “So General Manager Wu is also fond of good liquor?”
General Manager Wu laughed. “Just a small hobby, really. I also like to buy some fine liquor to entertain friends. But Old Lu here is very fond of drinking!”
That General Manager Lu looked at Chu Lin with interest. “Since Mr. Chu asks, do you perhaps have some fine liquor on hand?”
Chu Lin did not hide it. Smiling, he said, “In about a week, I should have some liquor with me—something definitely better than this white ambergris, and even rarer.”
Those words instantly drew the attention of the four men. Better than white ambergris, and even rarer—what sort of liquor could that possibly be?
If anyone else had said such a thing, they would have taken it with a grain of salt. But this Mr. Chu had just produced goods even better than fine white ambergris, so it was not as though he were talking nonsense.
It seemed this Mr. Chu was no ordinary person. The good things he could obtain were not limited to ambergris.
General Manager Lu hurriedly moved to sit beside Chu Lin. “Mr. Chu, let’s add each other as contacts first.”
