Volume One, Chapter One Hundred Fifteen: The Root of Motion Sickness

After enjoying the lunch served aboard the airliner, Mo De and several others, like most of the passengers, chose to take a nap and while away the time. After all, the air routes established through agreements with the atmospheric creatures were relatively fixed. The airliners could not fly directly from their points of departure to their destinations and still had to avoid the core territories of certain atmospheric creatures.
Of course, those traveling aboard a Skyveil Behemoth had no such need to take detours. Anyone capable of taming such a terrifying beast could fly straight over the heads of atmospheric creatures, and all they could do was seethe in silence.
At the front of the airliner, Chen Yue had put on an eye mask and fallen into a deep sleep, while Mu Qing nudged her sunglasses higher and gazed out through the distant window.
Her instincts told Mu Qing that something seemed to be hiding within the sea of clouds beneath the airliner.
“Atmospheric creatures hiding from a Skyveil Behemoth, perhaps...” Mu Qing murmured, then decided not to pursue the thought.
Adjusting her posture, Mu Qing settled comfortably against Chen Yue’s shoulder, gradually emptying her mind and beginning to enjoy a pleasant afternoon nap.
The sun drifted westward, and dusk spread across the sky. Near evening, the airliner finally reached its terminal station. After passing through the Safe-Boundary Barrier, it descended at the air transport center.
The forty passengers transferred to vehicles sent by the Third University of Supernatural Abilities and set off toward its sprawling campus.
Su Ziwen awoke when the airliner passed through the Safe-Boundary Barrier. After lingering for a while in the restroom at the air transport base, she was carried onto the coach by Mo De.
Seated at the front of the coach, Mu Qing turned her head away from Mo De, who was carrying Su Ziwen, and chatted and joked merrily with Chen Yue beside her without sparing him a glance.
After they arrived at the Third University of Supernatural Abilities, Ivanoti and Yu Jiuchuan once again helped the feeble, barely breathing Su Ziwen out of the women’s restroom. Mu Qing suddenly sensed something and turned to look at Su Ziwen, who was being supported by the two girls.
How had this girl’s ability cultivation increased so much after suffering from motion sickness and airsickness all the way here? Although she looked utterly listless at present, her strength had improved considerably since Mu Qing had first met her.
It seemed this girl had a few little secrets of her own.
Mu Qing adjusted her glasses. After noticing Mo De’s hostile stare, she turned away and walked ahead with the teaching staff.
The accommodations arranged by the Third University of Supernatural Abilities for the group of forty were in a reception apartment. The teachers’ rooms were adjacent to the students’ rooms, making it convenient for the students to seek help from their teachers at once should any problems arise.

As luck would have it, the two apartments bordering the students’ and teachers’ quarters were occupied by Mo De and Mu Qing.
Mo De watched as his new neighbor greeted him warmly from behind a pair of tea-colored sunglasses. Only after taking several deep breaths did he manage to force a smile. He then opened the door to his room and darted inside.
The reception apartments provided by the Third University of Supernatural Abilities were excellent. Every room was fully furnished and remarkably spacious.
The girls’ rooms were located across from and beside Mo De’s. At that moment, Ivanoti and Yu Jiuchuan were gathered in one room, tending to Su Ziwen, who lay on the bed.
Air travel seemed to have placed an even heavier burden on her than traveling by land. Su Ziwen had already vomited everything in her stomach, yet she still could not suppress the rising nausea or the cramping pain twisting through her abdomen.
A knock sounded at the door. Student Feng rose to answer it and found two teachers standing outside.
“Is Su Ziwen from Tianshui High School in Qin City staying here?” Chen Yue asked, checking the student roster to make sure she had not come to the wrong room.
Ivanoti nodded.
“We came to see how Su is doing. She seemed to be feeling rather unwell earlier,” Chen Yue said tactfully.
The words “rather unwell” were far too mild. The commotion Su Ziwen had caused at the air transport center had been considerable—enough even to alarm Madam Chu Fengyi. When she saw that the young girl was still reacting so violently after arriving at the Third University of Supernatural Abilities, Madam Chu instructed Chen to go and pay the child a visit.
Chen Yue, who was already somewhat shy and easily embarrassed around strangers, had no choice but to bring along her newly acquired “bad influence,” Mu Qing, to Su Ziwen’s room.
Mu Qing entered last. After closing the door, she followed Ivanoti and Chen Yue inside. Yu Jiuchuan nodded to them in greeting, then continued wiping the cold sweat from Su Ziwen’s forehead with a towel.
Ivanoti explained Su Ziwen’s severe motion-sickness reaction to the two teachers. Once Chen Yue understood what had happened, she walked to the bedside, bent down, and gently massaged the temples on either side of Su Ziwen’s head.
A faint radiance of supernatural energy circled Su Ziwen’s head, easing the immense strain placed on her vestibular system.
Like Su Ziwen, Chen Yue was also a spatial ability-user. Before breaking through to the Second Awakening, she too had suffered discomfort during long-distance travel, though her reactions had never been as severe as Su Ziwen’s.

Spatial ability-users were more sensitive than ordinary ability-users to the movement of coordinates. Rapid, long-distance shifts placed tremendous strain on their vestibular systems, including the semicircular canals. Motion sickness, seasickness, and airsickness were the most direct manifestations of that burden.
Chen Yue released her own supernatural energy, gently soothing Su Ziwen’s body and mind and easing the intense dizziness and nausea that afflicted her.
Gradually, under the gentle massage of Chen Yue’s fingertips, the anguish on Su Ziwen’s face finally subsided. Strands of disordered hair clung to her pale cheeks. At last freed from her suffering, Su Ziwen sank into a deep sleep once more.
After wiping Su Ziwen’s forehead and neck, Yu Jiuchuan pulled the blanket over her. The others then quietly left the room, leaving Su Ziwen alone to rest in peace.
“Wasn’t there another student from Tianshui High School in Qin City?”
At those words, Yu Jiuchuan looked toward the female teacher wearing tea-colored sunglasses. Ivanoti, meanwhile, pointed toward Mo De’s room with one small hand.
“Senior Mo is in that room.”
“So he’s my neighbor after all.” Mu Qing sounded somewhat surprised.
Student Feng walked over and knocked on the door.
“Senior, after Teacher Chen helped her, Ziwen is feeling much better,” Ivanoti told Mo De when he opened the door, informing him that Su Ziwen was fine so that he would not continue worrying about her.
“Thank you, Teacher Chen...” Mo De said happily. He looked up to thank Chen Yue, only to discover that Mu Qing was standing outside as well.
“Su’s symptoms are actually quite common among spatial ability-users. It is simply less common for the reaction to be as severe as hers. There is no need for everyone to worry too much. Once Su’s strength improves further, she should be able to overcome the discomfort caused by rapid spatial movement.”
Chen Yue explained the underlying reason for Su Ziwen’s motion sickness to the young students from Tianshui High School, putting their minds at ease.
On the return journey, I should change seats with Mo De. That way, I can use my own spatial energy to ease Su’s airsickness.
Chen Yue made this plan silently to herself.
