For dinner, the group from Changqing decided to go with the hotel buffet. Although the funding came from the Provincial Department of Education, the department was hardly a wealthy institution, so the allocated budget was far from generous. There was no extra money to treat the students or teachers lavishly. Therefore, all the teams participating in the knowledge competition simply chose the buffet included with their hotel stay to satisfy their hunger.

The eight of them selected a long table and sat down. After casually picking some food, they began eating and chatting. Two student representatives, selected through the exam process, showed great attentiveness towards Wang Yiran. Despite Wang Yiran sitting next to Qin Anyi and their evident closeness, no one could dampen the warmth between them.

Sometimes, it’s hard to understand what drives a moth to throw itself into the flame. What seems like foolish, reckless behavior to you might be perfectly normal in their eyes. Everyone has different pursuits, so it can be difficult to accept others’ actions.

Shi Le remained as quiet as ever, but Qin Anyi found himself paying more attention to him. To earn such high praise from Wang Yiran, Shi Le must be far more complex than he appeared on the surface. Since Wang Yiran described him as a typical opportunist, Qin Anyi had been pondering the meaning behind this label.

What exactly is an opportunist? Although Wang Yiran hadn’t elaborated, Qin Anyi had his own understanding. A truly powerful opportunist couldn’t rely solely on precise speculation to reach accurate conclusions. Such speculation wasn’t always consciously made; it could also stem from intuition.

“Yiran? It’s your turn again. I didn’t expect it would be a whole year since we last met. Last time, I didn’t even get to ask for your phone number. This time, I won’t miss the chance,” a voice interrupted Qin Anyi’s thoughts. He turned his head to see a young man with a rather handsome and clean-cut appearance, his face still bearing the innocent charm typical of students, but radiating a sunny disposition.

“Hello,” Wang Yiran politely stood up, smiled, and nodded. Then she reached out and pulled Qin Anyi up. “Let me introduce you. This is my boyfriend, Qin Anyi. Anyi, this is Wang Fei, the top genius of the Provincial Experimental School. We lost to him in the last knowledge competition.”

“Boyfriend?” Wang Fei’s face twitched involuntarily but he quickly masked it, casually scrutinizing Qin Anyi before smiling and saying, “Yiran, you’re joking. To call me a genius in front of you is truly undeserved. We were just lucky to win last time. If it were a one-on-one match against you—”

“Brother Fei, don’t worry. Here in Ludong Province, who could possibly compete with you for women?” the bespectacled young man said, flattering him.

“Go ahead. Before tomorrow’s knowledge competition starts, I want results. I’d better not see any more incidents involving Wang Yiran. If it weren’t for you, this useless fellow, wasting a whole year and still unable to find a phone number, I wouldn’t have lost such an important person today!” Wang Fei snorted coldly, anger flashing in his eyes.

The bespectacled young man nodded repeatedly in agreement, though a hint of resentment flickered across his gaze. However, due to their seating arrangement, Wang Fei did not notice.
