Chapter Ninety-One: Sweeping Through the Crossbow Tower

At last, Huang Yunshuo’s defense buff had fully stacked. Forty points of defense. When an NPC hacked him once, it still took twenty health off him. To be honest, it still hurt a bit. His defensive stat still hadn’t opened any truly overwhelming gap between himself and ordinary players.

Which only made him look forward even more to the alloy battle armor Wang Dachui was forging for him.

When that time came, whatever else might happen, its defense would surely be outrageous, right?

“Shall we attack?”

The six NPC generals turned to ask Huang Yunshuo.

As his score pulled farther and farther ahead of Morning Dew, Light Frost and Jing Xu, his standing in the hearts of the NPC generals rose with it.

“Can you deal with those heavy crossbows?”

Huang Yunshuo stared at the ten ballista towers. The massive engines mounted on top made his scalp tingle. If one of those bolts came down on him, the attack power had to be at least over a hundred, and the knockback effect definitely wouldn’t be mild. If he took even one shot, it would probably be miserable.

“A mere ten ballista towers.”

The generals laughed. “In war, how can there be no deaths? Those towers look decent enough, but if we rush them all at once, they’ll be dealt with in no time.”

“All right then. What are we waiting for? Hit them!”

With all his buffs maxed out, Huang Yunshuo shouted arrogantly.

At one command from the six generals, the army of 2,600 NPC troops began to advance.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh...

Ten heavy bolts shot out at once. A swath of blue-side NPC infantry was blasted flying, and damage numbers of more than two hundred each burst out in midair. They tumbled across the ground in a sorry heap and took a long while to struggle back up.

“Damn, that attack’s got to be close to three hundred, doesn’t it?”

Huang Yunshuo was thoroughly rattled. Luckily, they hadn’t fired at him.

The heavy crossbows reloaded slowly. By the time they were preparing their second volley, the blue-side NPC archers had already drawn their bows. A dense rain of arrows poured toward the ten ballista towers. Cries rang out from atop them. Not many red-side archers were killed on the spot, but quite a few lost their footing and were shot down from the heights.

“That brutal?”

Huang Yunshuo froze for a moment. Sure enough, when an army bore down in force, no bizarre contraption could really stand against it.

To him, those ten towers had looked mighty, imposing, and magnificent. Yet in the end, they were completely useless and were broken through in an instant.

One tower after another was chopped down. The army of 2,600 NPCs spread out in a fan shape and pressed toward the main hall. Along the way, red-side players were blown apart in droves. By now, no one was crawling out of the hall to throw their lives away anymore.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!

Several groups of archers fired continuously at the hall, while masses of infantry packed themselves before it, swinging curved blades and hacking at its walls.

The hall’s long durability bar plummeted wildly. The moment its durability hit zero, it was all over. A flash of white light flickered before Huang Yunshuo’s eyes, and he was transported out of the instance map.

“That fight must’ve gone on for more than half an hour. I’m exhausted.”

He kneaded his aching arms hard. Huang Yunshuo felt as though his whole body were about to fall apart. Using the rocket launcher had indeed been exhilarating, but the aftereffects were a bit too severe.

At that moment, he actually missed Fox Xiaoruan a little. If those little hands of hers gave him a proper massage with some force, wouldn’t he practically ascend on the spot?

“So mass-produced weapons are finally starting to appear.”

A faint smile tugged at Huang Yunshuo’s lips. Right now, the strongest things in most players’ hands were no more than a giant carrot club or a sloth gauntlet. Compared to these weapons that casually granted stat boosts in the double digits, those were nothing at all.

Once weapons began to arm players on a large scale, everyone could finally breathe a little easier. High defense and low attack had really been suffocating.

These five weapon types corresponded to the three kinds of wild monsters in the faction territories inside the instance, plus the two kinds from the neutral map. They covered every major weapon category used by all current professions. One could say any class would be able to find something suitable here.

What did eight hundred points amount to?

Huang Yunshuo, who had earned more than seven thousand in a single run, had no real sense of it. But there was no way an ordinary player could get that much in one instance. Even two runs wouldn’t be enough. It would take at least three or four.

Because ordinary players couldn’t contribute much in an instance, nor could they gain any meaningful battle participation. The main source of points was still turning in materials. Add in a few bits and pieces from miscellaneous sources like victory rewards, and scraping together eight hundred was still tough.

The daily limit for the instance was three runs. Huang Yunshuo was deeply annoyed. Today he had gotten so absorbed in mining that he had only run it once, wasting two entries. That was more than ten thousand points gone.

Among the five weapons, the assassin’s two-handed daggers had the fiercest stat boosts. Attack and agility went straight up by twenty, and strength gained another ten.

If an assassin suddenly sprang up and struck from behind, an ordinary player simply wouldn’t be able to take it.

Which was why the penalty on this weapon was so severe. Health dropped by a full eighty points. If some assassin player had one hundred and twenty health, then afterward he would be left with a pitiful forty. Anyone could kill him in two hits. As for Huang Yunshuo, one rocket blast could probably blow several of them to death at once.

“Assassin really is one hell of a class. I wonder what Chu Jun is feeling right now.”

He shook his head and continued looking down the weapon list.
