Chapter 103: Few Are Left Who Seek Death
The next day, as Yun Fu settled into the car, Lian Hanqi handed her a stack of exam papers.
“If there’s anything you don’t know, leave it blank and I’ll teach you,” he said.
Yun Fu stared at the genuine exam papers in her hands, stunned for a moment before she nodded.
Seeing her accept them, Lian Hanqi seemed to breathe a sigh of relief.
The car stopped in front of Gatherer’s House. Yun Fu was already familiar with this place.
“Gu Zhishu heard you’re back and insisted on joining us for lunch.”
“He’s inside?”
“No, I wouldn’t let him come.”
Yun Fu looked up at the man beside her and couldn’t help but smile. How had she never noticed before how childish he could be?
Upon their arrival, the manager of Gatherer’s House hurried over to greet them, leading them to the finest private room.
Before their figures disappeared through the doorway, two others happened to spot them.
Qiu Fangfei squinted and nudged Tong Zhenzhen. “Tong Zhenzhen, wasn’t that Yun Fu just now?”
“You saw her too? That’s definitely her. But how could she afford to dine here? We only got in because of Young Master Zhong.”
Qiu Fangfei bit her lip. Ever since Yun Fu “snatched” her role last time, she’d been holding a grudge.
Now, seeing Yun Fu enter Gatherer’s House with a man, her mind filled with nothing but malicious thoughts.
She curled her lip. “She’s probably seduced some guy. Otherwise, how could she have gotten into that top-tier variety show with you, or landed my film role? It’s all hers now—could that really happen?”
Tong Zhenzhen quickly agreed, clutching her hand. “What should we do? We can’t just swallow this loss. I was nothing but a prop on that show, all the attention went to her.”
The two exchanged glances, their eyes glinting with dark, poisonous intent.
——
Since Lian Hanqi had to return to the company, Yun Fu asked him to drop her home after lunch.
She then grabbed her car keys and headed for the KDS base.
Li Sinian was visibly excited to see her; a swarm of young men quickly surrounded her.
They played several rounds of games, and Li Sinian, usually reserved, couldn’t help but smile. “With Sister Fu leading us, we’re sure not to lose the competition.”
“Not only won’t we lose, we’ll win!” boasted a teammate nearby.
There was no denying Yun Fu’s skill was impressive.
Once, they’d looked down on girls who played games, but after playing with Yun Fu, they were completely won over.
Now, when Yun Fu spoke in their group, she held more sway than their team leader.
When evening came, Yun Fu knew Lian Hanqi would arrange someone to deliver her dinner, so she went back home.
But instead of dinner, Qiao An arrived first.
“Qiao, what’s wrong?” Seeing her expression, something had surely happened.
Qiao An took a breath, pulled out her phone, her face darkening. “Look at this! Someone’s spreading rumors, saying you know powerful people, that all your variety show and film resources were obtained through improper means. It’s all so detailed!”
She pointed at a picture on her phone. “No idea where this was taken—it's you in the photo, but the man beside you is heavily pixelated, can't be recognized.
You’ve been filming variety shows this whole time, only returned yesterday—where could you have gone? It’s pure fabrication! And so many people believe it. Someone’s definitely out to get you!”
Yun Fu sat on the sofa, a French book in hand—Qiao An guessed it was about depression, as usual.
Only after hearing the last part did Yun Fu finally speak in a low voice, “Yesterday, Lian Hanqi invited me to dinner.”
Qiao An was taken aback. “Boss Lian?”
Yun Fu nodded.
“So the man is Lian Hanqi? No wonder they wouldn’t dare reveal his identity and pixelated him instead.”
“If they knew, they wouldn’t have posted this.”
“Then why?”
“People who dine at Gatherer’s House are rarely ordinary. The ones behind the rumors only know I’m a celebrity, so I couldn’t have such privilege. That leaves only the person beside me.”
Yun Fu had guessed right.
When Qiu Fangfei suggested doing this with Tong Zhenzhen, Tong Zhenzhen took it upon herself.
Having worked with Yun Fu on the recent show, she’d been holding a grudge.
The two reasoned that the man with Yun Fu must have a powerful background—his face couldn’t be shown, but it could be pixelated.
Had they known he was Lian Hanqi, they’d probably be preparing coffins by now.
Seeing Qiao An visibly relieved after hearing Lian Hanqi’s name, Yun Fu closed her book with a sigh. “Qiao, you should go home. I’ll handle this.”
She had never been a gentle soul; on the contrary, her hands were stained with blood. Such trivial matters barely registered in her mind.
Knowing Yun Fu had a plan and that the man was Lian Hanqi, Qiao An left, completely reassured.
Just as she reached the door, she paused. “By the way, do you need me to prepare your outfit for the press conference?”
“No, I can handle it myself.”
“Alright, then I’ll keep looking for suitable ads for you, since you haven’t joined a new project yet.”
Yun Fu nodded.
Watching Qiao An leave, she finally opened her phone leisurely.
The trending searches were already filled with—[Yun Fu’s Background]
[Who is this woman anyway? I don’t even know her. An absolute nobody, yet she’s always trending—how shameless!]
[She’s always stirring things up. No real works to show, just constant self-promotion. So annoying!]
[Another one who thinks she’s invincible just because she looks decent. Absolutely insufferable!]
[Her resources just keep getting better and better. What background does she have? I heard her parents are just farmers, but she’s got all those patrons.]
[First the SC commercial, then the variety show, and now a film by Director Liu. How does she manage all this?]
[These days, only a handful of actors are willing to work hard and act honestly. None are as eager for attention as her.]
The public could easily be manipulated. News about Lian Hanqi would soon be suppressed, and the story of Yun Fu helping Old Lady Lian recover had already been buried by her arrangements.
Now, except for Yun Fu’s most devoted fans, few knew of her connection to Lian Hanqi.
Even those who did wouldn’t dare use Lian Hanqi for publicity.
Reading these comments, Yun Fu’s lips curled in amusement, her gaze full of intrigue.
These days, people so eager for disaster were rare.
She’d intended to investigate on her own, but after some thought, she sent a message to Mo Day.
[Find out who did this for me.]
[You didn’t even need to ask—I’ve already found out. It’s a woman named Tong Zhenzhen, but another woman named Qiu Fangfei is involved. Both have had contact with you.]
