Chapter 157: Her Family
At that moment, Qiao An also sighed and said quietly, “Although I’ve never met them, when you first came out, your adoptive parents used to call frequently to ask after you...”
She was only an agent. Some things were best left unsaid.
Yun Fu frowned and began searching through every memory buried in her mind.
Indeed, the family of her adoptive parents had treated the original Yun Fu extremely well.
Their circumstances had been ordinary, but they had done everything in their power to give her the best. Yet in the proud heart of the original Yun Fu, none of it had ever seemed to count for much.
To say nothing of the fact that, when she was six, her adoptive parents—who had long been unable to have children—suddenly had a son.
She had been a sensitive and insecure girl. Back then, the neighbors often told her that once her adoptive parents had a child of their own, they would no longer want her.
Gradually, the original Yun Fu came to believe it as well, and her relationship with her adoptive parents grew increasingly cold.
Yun Fu closed her eyes briefly, concealing the emotions within them.
After sending Qiao An away, Yun Fu took out the black computer and began typing once more.
The familiar black screen appeared.
Looking at the information displayed there, Yun Fu rubbed her aching head.
Meanwhile, after leaving the hotel, Jian Huai and Yun Ye stood gazing at the room whose lights were still on, their hearts filled with indescribable discomfort.
“What kind of attitude was that? Sister Zhi’s scar hasn’t even faded yet. It would be one thing if she didn’t feel guilty, but how could she treat us like that?” Only after leaving did Jian Huai dare to grumble and curse.
“I’m going back to tell Aunt and Uncle. Why did they even ask her to return?”
Unlike her anger, the young Yun Ye’s tender face was clouded with gloom.
He was not entirely thoughtless. He understood perfectly well that Yun Fu was his only biological sister.
But he was too young and powerless to resist his family’s wishes.
After hearing his cousin say that, his expression changed. “Sister has every right to blame us. We’re the ones who wronged her.
“Forget it. Let’s go home first. Maybe she won’t be angry anymore tomorrow.”
Jian Huai curled her lips. To be honest, she had no desire to see Yun Fu again.
Who knew why she had suddenly become so terrifying? Jian Huai no longer even dared to look into her eyes.
And she had no idea why her aunt and uncle insisted on bringing Yun Fu back. Did they really think Yun Fu knew some influential person in S City?
If that were true, then with Yun Fu’s personality, she would have been flaunting it to the heavens by now. How could she be keeping such a low profile?

The next day, when they went looking for her again, they were told that the production had already gone on holiday and that Yun Fu had checked out of her room.
They had no way to contact her. She had no company now, and they did not know any of her friends.
The two of them simply could not find Yun Fu.
And while they were searching everywhere for her, Yun Fu had already boarded a plane bound for Yangcheng.
The first reason was that she had taken over the original owner’s body and ought to shoulder the corresponding responsibilities.
The second was the result of her investigation. Over the past few years, Yun Fu’s adoptive parents had continued to keep track of her and send her things. But ever since she had terminated her contract with Starshine Entertainment, the packages had stopped reaching her.
After five swaying hours, the plane finally landed in a city that was remarkably modest compared with S City.
“Miss Yun, here is the car you requested.”
Yun Fu’s adoptive parents lived in a place called J City, near Yangcheng, which had no airport.
She disliked sharing a car or taking the high-speed rail with strangers, so she had asked Eric to arrange a vehicle for her.
Following the memories in her mind, Yun Fu felt, for the first time in a long while, a faint uneasiness at returning home after so many years away.
She walked to the familiar door and knocked.
There was no response.
She knocked again, but still no one answered.
After a while, the door next door opened instead.
“Little girl, are you looking for someone? Old Xie was injured, so the whole family rushed to the hospital. Honestly, what a disaster, right over the New Year...”
The middle-aged neighbor was exceedingly familiar, rattling off a long string of words toward Yun Fu’s back.
But when Yun Fu turned around, the woman stopped speaking and stared at her as if she had seen a ghost.
“You—you’re Yun Fu, aren’t you? You—you’re back?!”
Yun Fu nodded coldly.
The woman’s expression shifted through a remarkable range of emotions. She came over and walked several circles around Yun Fu.
“Young lady, your parents may not be your biological parents, but they truly treated you well. And you were really heartless—once you left, you never looked back. All these years, you didn’t even send them a phone call...”
After speaking at length, the woman finally noticed that Yun Fu’s expression had darkened.
“Anyway, your parents are at People’s Hospital. Hurry over and take a look.”
Yun Fu nodded to her, then quickly hurried downstairs.

Watching her retreating figure, the woman muttered, “What happened to that girl? She’s changed so much after only a few years.”
Fortunately, it was a small city, and not many people believed they might encounter a celebrity there. Yun Fu made her way to the hospital without obstruction and soon found the ward.
Before she could enter, however, she heard a commotion inside.
“Sister-in-law, it’s not that we want to pressure you, but it’s the New Year. We agreed that you’d repay us this year, and the children will be starting university next year. There’s money needed everywhere.”
“That’s right, Sister-in-law. We only run a small business ourselves. If things really come to that, why not take out that girl Yun Fu’s dowry? She’s already flown up the branches and become a phoenix. How could she possibly remember her adoptive parents now?”
After those two voices came a burst of hurried breathing.
Then a middle-aged man’s voice rang out. He seemed to be struggling, forcing an angry roar from deep in his throat.
“You... get out! Tomorrow—tomorrow I’ll repay the money. Don’t even think about touching Fu’er’s dowry!”
Several people pushed open the ward door and emerged.
When they saw Yun Fu standing outside, they froze for a moment, then all widened their eyes in unison.
“Yun Fu?!”
Yun Fu raised a hand and adjusted the cap on her head. Then she lifted her eyes and gave them a deep look.
“How much do you owe them?”
“W-what?”
Yun Fu searched her memories for these people. One was her aunt, and another was her uncle—the siblings of her adoptive father.
Inside the ward, Xie’s mother and Xie Chengyuan hurried out after hearing the voices.
At a glance, they saw the young woman before them, dressed in sportswear and wearing a baseball cap.
Xie’s mother’s eyes instantly reddened. “Fu’er?!”
Her voice trembled as she stared at the person before her in disbelief.
The boy beside her was equally astonished. Yet compared with Xie’s mother’s excitement, his expression held a little more anger.
Yun Fu took a bank card from her wallet and handed it to the middle-aged woman standing in front.
Her voice remained cold and indifferent. “There’s one hundred thousand on this. If it isn’t enough, I’ll give you the rest tomorrow.”
Aunt Xie stared at the card with a strange expression.
Xie’s mother, however, quickly came to her senses. She snatched the card back from Aunt Xie’s hand.
“Sister, we’ll repay the money tomorrow. Don’t worry.”
