Chapter 108: No Guarantee of Surviving a Fall
Even the host was left staring in a daze, and only professional instinct pulled the event back on track.
“Hello, everyone. My name is Yun Fu, and I play Qian Xuan in Skyward Valor.”
At that moment, everyone remembered the figure in red standing atop the snow-covered peak, and the image of Qian Xuan seemed to merge gradually with the Yun Fu before them.
Zeng Yuzi, who appeared after her, clenched her fists.
She had truly poured her heart and soul into this drama. For the press conference, she had spent a fortune on a custom gown and jewelry, all in the hope of drawing everyone’s attention back from Qian Xuan to the heroine.
She knew what had happened to Ning Lan, and so she did not dare offend Yun Fu lightly.
But now, seeing Yun Fu shine so brilliantly, jealousy in her heart grew like wild grass.
Looking at this woman who could become the lead even while playing a supporting role, she suddenly seemed to understand Ning Lan’s actions.
And then, just her luck, Fu Shiqian standing beside her gave an offhand remark: “Yun Fu really suits Qian Xuan. No wonder Director Bai is so optimistic about her.”
He did not know that, because of those words, Zeng Yuzi’s state of mind changed completely.
She gritted her teeth and forced out a thin smile. When the host called their names, she finally managed to keep her expression under control and went on stage.
There was a segment at the press conference where each person had to comment on another actor from the production.
Zeng Yuzi glanced at Yun Fu, who was standing beside the director, lifted the microphone, and said softly, “Yun Fu is a very outstanding actress, and also someone who gives a great deal to her work. I very much look forward to her future performances.”
What did that mean? Gives a great deal? Was there some inside story they did not know?
Didn’t you think Yun Fu’s outfit today looked far too high-end? She’s just an obscure little actress, so where did she get the money? Is Zeng Yuzi hinting at something?
That necklace is clearly no ordinary piece, and Director Bai just happens to be standing beside her. Didn’t news just break that she has a powerful backer? That person must be extraordinary.
That article was pulled down very quickly. I still think something’s fishy.
The director is standing between the two of them, okay? Are you blind? All day long, always going on and on!
No matter what the audience said, once words were spoken, they were hard to take back.
Yun Fu lifted her eyes. Those eyes, as if able to see through everything, had shed some of their languid softness as they swept across Zeng Yuzi.
Before the host could say anything, Yun Fu raised her microphone and said coldly, “I’m not familiar with you, am I? Your judgment is too one-sided.”
The entire room fell silent.
Which production team did not compete to say their cast got along harmoniously and knew each other well? Yet with Yun Fu, one sentence—you're not familiar—blocked everything.
Director Bai, standing beside Yun Fu, sighed, and could not help feeling a little resentful toward Zeng Yuzi.
Why did you have to comment on Yun Fu? If you had simply followed the arrangement, even a casual pairing with Fu Shiqian could have stirred up some shipping buzz.
With no other choice, Director Bai raised his microphone.
“Yun Fu is indeed an excellent actress. However, Yuzi joined the production later, so she may not be very familiar with the other cast members besides Shiqian. Please continue to support Skyward Valor.”
Zeng Yuzi had not expected Director Bai to speak up for Yun Fu. The jealousy in her heart turned into hatred.
Fortunately, the host did not let the two of them stand on stage together again, and the press conference continued without further incident.
Yun Fu stepped down the stairs in her high heels, with Zeng Yuzi following behind her.
Looking at the graceful figure ahead, Zeng Yuzi’s anger surged. As though a devil had clouded her heart, she reached out and pushed, exerting a little force.
“Watch out!” Qiao An, standing below, saw Yun Fu’s body sway slightly and nearly died of fright.
Before she could rush forward to catch her, Yun Fu turned sharply and, in one swift motion, steadied herself while reaching back to yank Zeng Yuzi.
It all happened in the blink of an eye. By the time everyone reacted, Zeng Yuzi had already fallen to the floor with a loud thud.
The staff and her agent hurried over, and just as they were about to help her up, the corner of their eyes caught sight of Yun Fu’s long, straight legs walking up to Zeng Yuzi.
She looked down at her from above.
The icy chill in her voice instantly turned the bright, springlike weather back into winter.
“Next time you want to push someone, practice first before coming over. Otherwise, I can’t promise you won’t break your neck.”
The sound of her heels receding struck at the heart with every step, dangerous and alluring.
Even from some distance away, one could still vaguely hear Yun Fu instructing her agent: “Remember to get the surveillance footage from just now, so some people won’t say I framed her.”
“...Oh, okay.”
Yun Fu was truly annoyed.
She had only just dealt with those two, and now another one had come along. She did not have the time to play these little entertainment-industry tricks with them.
Qiao An followed behind her nervously. Only after they entered the lounge did she remember what she had meant to tell Yun Fu.
“Oh, right, Xiao Fu. I just got a call from Hero Vanguard. They said they want to invite you to be the spokesperson for their new season. Oh my god, Xiao Fu, do you know what this means? It is something every top star dreams of... I never expected it would land in our hands.”
Qiao An was thrilled, and afraid Yun Fu would not believe her, so she even opened the contract the official side had sent her to show Yun Fu.
Yun Fu sat in the resting chair, her peach-blossom eyes curving slightly upward as she calmly said to Qiao An beside her, “I know. I took it from Xi Rour.”
“...What? What!”
“There should be two more endorsements. Hold them for now; I’m not interested.”
“?!”
Qiao An felt that her heart had challenged the limits of the human body every single day during this period.
When Yun Fu casually explained, in just a few light words, that the reason she had gone to Hua Yu that day was to threaten their CEO into handing over those endorsements, Qiao An almost wanted to stage a death scene on the spot.
This person was far too outrageous.
After the press conference ended, Yun Fu received a message from Lian Hanqi.
“Finished? I’m at the entrance.”
Ignoring the still-stunned Qiao An, Yun Fu changed clothes, picked up her bag, and said with great ease, “Lian Hanqi is outside. You can head back first.”
“Mm, okay.” At this point, Qiao An felt that even if Yun Fu said a foreign emperor was waiting outside, she would not be surprised.
After getting into Lian Hanqi’s car, Yun Fu heard a lively voice.
“Xiao Fuir, long time no see. You’ve become even prettier.”
Looking up, she saw Gu Zhishu in the passenger seat.
Yun Fu curved her lips and nodded at him.
Then a burst of cold air suddenly came from beside her. Turning her head, she met Lian Hanqi’s deep, dark eyes.
“Where are we going?”
“They said they wanted to get together, so I’m taking you there for dinner.”
“Mm.”
“Did you do the test papers?”
“...Mm.” Why did this person always sound like a dean of studies, making her do practice exams? Annoying to death.
“Did you bring them?”
Yun Fu could not help glowering at him. “You brought test papers to a press conference?”
