Chapter 109: One Scandal After Another
She glanced at him with those round, bright eyes, and in Leng Hanqi’s eyes, she somehow seemed a little more lovable.
He could not help but smile.
Yet to Yun Fu, he looked like a fool—being scolded and still smiling so happily.
“Fine. I’ll go back with you in a moment and see how your test went, too.”
In the passenger seat, Gu Zhishu, who had heard everything, could not help but mutter inwardly: old fox. What checking a test paper? He is obviously scheming to go home with Little Fu.
An old man with too many tricks.
“So the last time you contacted the principal at Qingda to get the paper was for Little Fu? You should have said so earlier. I could have helped you…” He caught the murderous look and decided, never mind, he would shut up.
Their dinner destination seemed to be in the suburbs. The car drove on for a long while before finally stopping in front of a secluded courtyard residence.
As soon as he got out, Gu Zhishu eagerly began introducing the place to Yun Fu. “This is a private kitchen restaurant. It’s run by my brother’s old friend. They only serve a handful of people. If you ever want to come, you can use my brother’s name.”
“You’re so impressive. I’d think you were the one who owned it.”
“……”
Small bridges over flowing water, koi fish and bamboo groves, antique charm everywhere, exquisite beyond compare.
Only a few side rooms were visible. Leng Hanqi led Yun Fu to the last one and pushed the door open.
The faces inside were all familiar.
Qin Yi, Su Changzhou, and Lu Ting—plus one stranger.
“Brother Qi, Little Fu.” The others greeted them at once, and also introduced the sole unfamiliar man. “This is Shen Yuheng. You can call him Brother Heng. I’ll add him to the group later. If you need any help, you can tell him too.”
Shen Yuheng was a man in gold-rimmed glasses, with an air of clean gentleness about him, and a strikingly handsome face.
He looked harmless enough, but since he could walk alongside Leng Hanqi and the others, he was certainly no ordinary man.
“Yun Fu, hello. I’ve often heard them mention you. You’re even prettier than on television.”
“Hello. Thank you.”
The group shared a meal together and quickly became familiar with one another. Yun Fu did not even realize how unprecedentedly relaxed she had become around them.
After dinner, the group merrily began their game of Chinese mahjong.
Because there were six of them, Yun Fu and Gu Zhishu took turns resting. One because they wanted Yun Fu to watch a round, and the other because Gu Zhishu was too terrible at it.
Suddenly, Gu Zhishu stared at his phone and snorted. “These people are way too shameless! What financial backer? If we just leaked one of our identities, we could scare them to death!”
“What happened?”
Gu Zhishu quickly handed the phone to Leng Hanqi, who had asked.
Yun Fu’s mind turned, and she opened Weibo. Sure enough, the top trending topic was “Yun Fu’s Financial Backer,” with a heated tag beside it.
The blogger was an entertainment account. The very first line read: “Let’s talk about the terrifying resources behind the actress with the surname Yun, starting from the miraculous rise of her career after Ever-So-Brilliant.”
It began with the SC advertisement, then the variety show Our Journey, then the film You Are Your Best Self, and finally the outfit and necklace from today’s press conference.
The post said: “Every single resource mentioned above is something I’m sure you’ve all heard of. If I were to name them, you would probably think this remarkable backing belongs to some top star, right?
“Wrong. This actress surnamed Yun is neither top-tier nor even first-tier, not even second-tier. And yet all of these resources are hers. Tell me, isn’t that absurdly unbelievable?”
And that was not all. Right after that, another trending topic appeared.
“Yun Fu Wears a Knockoff Like Necklace,” with an explosive tag.
This blogger was from the fashion circle. She first brought out Like’s once-celebrated jewelry, all designed by the famed “Linglong” designer.
A designer’s style is not easy to change, and no established designer would ever bother to change it.
She placed all those jewels beside the necklace Yun Fu was wearing and made a comparison.
Then she said: “As you can see, anyone with eyes can tell this is the style of the same designer. Now that the great Linglong has returned, some celebrity with a mountain at her back, do you really expect me to believe your necklace was designed by Linglong?”
“I’m dying laughing. Her? Linglong? What a joke! Xi Rouer doesn’t even deserve that qualification, let alone her!”
“Above, please don’t drag our Rouer into this. She is not worthy of being compared with our Rouer!”
“That financial backer of hers is pretty amazing too. So many insane resources were all piled in front of her, and they’re not afraid of choking her to death.”
“What’s the use of piling them in front of her? She still can’t become popular. Haven’t you heard the saying? Small fame depends on hype, great fame depends on fate. Some people clearly just don’t have that fate.”
“A thing that’s been played with to the point of being ruined still dares to act aloof every day, acting like she can do anything. I suspect those directors were either blind, or else forced down by the power of her financial backer.”
“The moment I see that face, I want to throw up. And they still call her naturally beautiful, peerless enough to topple a kingdom? Even the wind would detour around her.”
“Above, that is savage. Leave some food for the pandas, hahaha!”
After these two explosive revelations, someone dug up a video from a clothing design competition two years ago.
The championship piece was a black qipao embroidered with dark-red peonies.
“I really don’t want to say much, but when that designer won back then, they even sent an assistant to accept the award. It was obvious they didn’t want to appear in public. How could they possibly design clothes for some third-rate celebrity?
“Some people are truly shameless. Not only did the team copy Linglong’s jewelry, they even copied the championship qipao. Copycats, just die already!!”
One revelation after another utterly ignited the outrage of the internet crowd. They would not seek the truth of the matter; after all, they only wanted to believe what they already believed.
Then they picked up their keyboards and became “righteous” guardians online.
“Damn it! That woman is way too shameless! Her team is shameless too, actually copying other people’s work for her to wear!”
“If she can’t afford other brands, then wear something affordable. Copying someone else’s work and treating the original creator’s effort like nothing—what kind of trash is that!”
“I even thought she looked stunning when she first appeared. So it was all stolen. Disgusting!”
“This woman is really hyping herself up every day. Isn’t it annoying!”
“I don’t want to see her anymore. Just looking at her makes me want to puke!”
But that was not all. Within just one hour, another incident occurred.
The female lead of Ever-So-Brilliant posted an article, seemingly implying that Yun Fu, relying on the director’s favor, had acted like a diva on set, looked down on her, and even shoved her after the press conference.
The accompanying photo showed a knee injury, and she was still wearing the dress she had on at today’s press conference.
Her fans erupted instantly.
“That vile woman! Destroy her!”
“What do you mean, the director’s favor? More like the director is too afraid to touch her!”
“Listen to the words she used at the press conference. Someone kindly praised her, and she shut them down with ‘not familiar.’ So impressive, huh?”
“Disgusting woman, get out of the entertainment industry!”
“Yun Fu is trash!”
