Chapter 128: What Kind of Job Did You Take?
Principal Luo stared blankly at the girl standing in the sunlight, unable to regain his composure for a long moment.
Kruz’s face turned ashen with fury, but when his gaze met Yun Fu’s, he was utterly speechless.
Finally, he swung his sleeve forcefully and snorted coldly, “You’ll regret this!”
With that, he strode away swiftly, his back radiating pure rage.
The heads of the remaining schools, who had always bowed to America, shot a sharp glare at Yun Fu as Kruz left, then turned and fled.
The vast conference room fell instantly silent.
Principal Luo finally came to his senses. Suppressing his inner excitement, he slowly approached Yun Fu. “Miss Yun, you really didn’t have to offend them like that. If you didn’t want to, we could have refused on your behalf.”
His tone bore no hint of reproach; instead, it was tinged with concern, like that of an elder caring for the younger generation.
Yun Fu glanced at him once more, her voice still cool but markedly different from before.
“I was just speaking the truth. China is no longer the China it once was. I have no fear of them; I will surpass them.”
Every word rang with unwavering strength.
She stood there, breathtakingly beautiful, yet it was the aura enveloping her that was even more stunning.
Principal Luo looked at her and suddenly his eyes reddened. He nodded firmly. “Good, good. This is how the youth of China should be!”
Yun Fu declined the kind offer from Principal Luo and the others to escort her out. Wearing a hat, she strolled leisurely through the campus that had nurtured so many talents.
Back at the film crew, Yun Fu received news from Qiao An—“Xiao Fu, do you know He Yuan? The renowned screenwriter both at home and abroad…”
Qiao An proceeded to fill her in on He Yuan’s background.
His parents were university professors from a scholarly family. Yet he went abroad to study screenwriting and entered the chaotic entertainment industry, which led to his father disowning him.
Despite this, he truly made a name for himself, winning a best screenwriting award overseas.
But he never lingered abroad; he returned home. Ever since his return, everyone had been eagerly awaiting his big project, and now there was finally movement.
“I heard he already finished a script. Today they announced open casting, and the female lead has been decided.”
Lying on a lounger, Yun Fu’s expression was unreadable. She gave a casual “hmm,” then asked, “The female lead is Xi Rou’er?”
Though phrased as a question, it was a statement of certainty.
“How do you know that?!”
Yun Fu shot a glance at a very surprised Qiao An, tilting her head and leaning on the lounger’s armrest lazily. “You mentioned it, so it means I know the person. Among the actresses I know, only she is qualified.”
“Yes, yes, yes!” Qiao An nodded rapidly, her panic somewhat abated by Yun Fu’s interruption.
“That script’s theme is similar to ours, about autism. If both films release simultaneously…”
“So what.” Yun Fu remained nonchalant. “She will definitely lose.”
“...” Such confidence. Damn, she actually believed it!
After another day of shooting, Director Liu looked at her like a dazzling treasure, eager to film all her scenes at once.
But when it came to Qiu Fangfei’s scenes, Yun Fu’s irritation gave her a headache.
Qiu Fangfei’s hatred for Yun Fu only grew fuller.
After wrapping for the night, Lian Hanqi came to pick her up as usual.
He brought another box of candy.
“You finished the last box?”
“Mm.”
As Lian Hanqi handed her the box, he said, “Don’t eat so much candy; it’ll rot your teeth.”
Yun Fu gave him a faint look. Though silent, Lian Hanqi saw two glaring words in her eyes—nagging!
Soft, gentle piano music flowed inside the car. Yun Fu relaxed, leaning back with her eyes closed, the first time she nearly dozed off outside.
When she woke, she sensed a sharpness nearby.
Looking over at Lian Hanqi, he was holding his phone, listening intently. Whatever was said made his expression instantly sharpen, his brows furrow deeply.
He then ended the call.
Feeling his gaze, he instructed the driver to turn around, saying to Yun Fu, “We might not be able to go out for dinner. Do you want me to take you home or come with me?”
“Together,” she replied.
He was clearly anxious. There was no need for him to escort her home, and she was curious about what had happened to make Lian Hanqi’s face change so.
The driver, overhearing their conversation, was slightly taken aback.
They were heading to Lian Hanqi’s secret stronghold, a place unknown even to Madam Lian. No one expected him to bring Yun Fu there.
His inquiry was very casual, as if it were no big deal.
The car drove toward the outskirts, passing fewer and fewer vehicles. By the time they reached a later stretch, Yun Fu clearly felt the hidden guards nearby.
She knew they must be close.
Lian Hanqi, noticing her expression, realized she had noticed the security despite knowing her abilities. He was still somewhat surprised.
After winding through a mountain road with many twists, the car finally stopped before a building.
Yun Fu got out, glanced at the surroundings, and guessed they were at the edge of S City, likely long removed from maps since this place belonged to Lian Hanqi.
He led her briskly through the gates. With every step, Yun Fu heard the faintest sounds of security checks in the air.
She recognized those sounds—they came from that former place. She hadn’t expected Lian Hanqi to have such measures.
Showing no emotion, she followed him as though walking an ordinary path.
Passing through several doors, Lian Hanqi pushed one open. Yun Fu looked inside and recognized half the people there.
Su Changzhou, Lu Ting, Qin Yi, his assistant… she didn’t recognize the other four.
The group was clearly surprised to see her but quickly realized that since Lian Hanqi had brought her, he must not mind her knowing.
One man with longer hair spun his laptop toward Lian Hanqi. “Boss, I’ve narrowed the scope as much as possible, but their side hired a hacker alliance… it looks like Monday.”
The mention of Monday’s name darkened everyone’s faces.
Yun Fu was speechless.
Lu Ting looked down, apologetic. “Boss, Gu Shao was covering for me…”
So Gu Zhishu had been kidnapped. That meant they wanted something from Lian Hanqi, using Gu Zhishu as leverage.
Sitting beside Lian Hanqi, Yun Fu frowned and took out her phone, sending a message to Mo Day.
[Have you taken on any new jobs recently?]
