Yun Fu was the one who noticed him. She lifted her head and looked over. “What is it?”
Xie Chengyuan came back to himself. “Oh, Mom and Dad asked you to come out for dinner.”
“All right.”
The small round table was laden with a sumptuous dinner. It looked nowhere near as delicious as the food at the Gatherer’s Pavilion, yet the aroma filling the air still stirred Yun Fu’s appetite.
Lin Chunhua ladled a bowl of soup for her and set it in front of her. Watching her still somewhat uneasy expression, she said gently, “Your father made the fish-head soup. It’s your favorite.”
“And there are the braised spare ribs your mother made. Eat more. Look how thin you’ve become.”
Dish after dish was passed to her, leaving Yun Fu bewildered for a moment.
They seemed to have been a family all along, as though no rift had ever come between them.
The food in Yun Fu’s bowl was unexpectedly delicious.
Beside her, Xie Chengyuan complained with a smile, “My sister’s an actress. She obviously can’t eat that much. What’s wrong with me having some?”
Xie Yinfeng immediately smacked his chopsticks away. “Your sister finally came home for a meal. Aren’t you ashamed of fighting her for food?”
“…”
Such an ordinary exchange stirred enormous waves in Yun Fu’s heart.
After dinner, Yun Fu sprawled on the sofa at home, as languid as a cat after a satisfying meal.
While replying to Lian Hanqi’s messages, she secretly calculated how long Xie Chengyuan could hold out before speaking.
At last, just as she received a reply from Lian Hanqi, Xie Chengyuan could not restrain himself any longer.
“Sis… want to play a game? I’ll teach you.”
If this had been before, Yun Fu would certainly have refused.
But this time, Xie Chengyuan inexplicably felt that his sister would not turn him down.
Sure enough, he heard her reply in a calm voice, “Sure. What shall we play?”
“The game you endorse—Hero Vanguard!”
The boy of thirteen or fourteen had not yet learned to conceal his feelings. His excitement was impossible to hide from his voice.
Yun Fu nodded, sat up on the sofa, and opened the game.
Xie Chengyuan opened it as well and switched on his microphone. Before long, several equally youthful voices came from the other end.
“Hey, Chengyuan! Didn’t you say you uninstalled the game? Why are you online again?”
“Did you come back to get beaten up again? Don’t worry, buddy—we’ll do you that favor.”
Xie Chengyuan wore a grin as he traded barbs with them. “What’s it to you? Hurry up.”
“All right, all right. But who’s the other person? A new friend?”
Xie Chengyuan glanced at his sister, who was sitting lazily beside him, and silently swallowed the introduction he had been about to make.
“Don’t worry about it. I know her. Just start the game.”

Then he said to Yun Fu, “Just follow behind me.”
Yun Fu glanced at him and nodded faintly.
After all, the three of them were only middle-school students. The game had a wide audience, and plenty of adults played it too.
At first, Yun Fu did exactly as Xie Chengyuan had told her. She followed behind him and even found time to leave the game and reply to messages.
They were utterly defeated.
The opposing team’s voices came through, dripping with ridicule.
“Listen, brats. You’d better go back to your books. This game isn’t for you.”
“Hahaha, they’re probably elementary school kids. What a bunch of noobs.”
“I have no idea how you reached this rank. Did you buy your way there? Don’t waste your parents’ money, brat. If you call me Dad, I might go easy on you.”
Xie Chengyuan and the others were nearly furious enough to explode. By then, his two friends were already trading insults with the opponents.
Xie Chengyuan, however, was stopped by Yun Fu.
She shook her head and sat up straight. There was still a trace of languid indifference in her manner, but she was far more serious than before.
“Let’s play again. We’ll face them again.”
The moment they heard a girl’s voice, everyone fell silent.
Xie Chengyuan’s friends said nothing, but the opponents began making strange noises.
“Oh, so you brought a girl along. No wonder you’re so terrible. Sweetheart, let me play with you. I’m much better than these brats.”
“That’s right. Play with us next round.”
Yun Fu raised a hand and tucked the hair falling over her face behind her ear, revealing her exquisite features.
Her voice was cool and indifferent. “Enough nonsense. Are we playing or not?”
And so another game began with the same players.
This time, however, things were different. Yun Fu said only one thing to Xie Chengyuan:
“Follow behind me and help out.”
Then she maneuvered her character with effortless fluidity—slaying opponents, protecting teammates, and collecting equipment.
She cut through every obstacle in her path, looking as though she had activated a cheat.
The only sounds coming through the headset were repeated cries of victory.
Xie Chengyuan had gone numb. He stared at his sister in disbelief, so excited that he nearly shouted.
In less than five minutes, the opposing characters had been completely crushed by her alone. They lay on the ground, reduced to gray, defeated figures.
It was a spectacularly one-sided defeat.
The two boys on the other side cried out in astonishment. “We won?! We won! Oh my gosh, Chengyuan, where did you find this amazing girl?”

“Waaah, she’s a human-shaped cheat! How did you do that, miss? They’re so hopeless—you could crush them with one hand!”
The feeling was unbelievably satisfying.
The two opponents fell silent as well. After a long while, Yun Fu finally heard them ask hesitantly, “Miss… you’re not a professional player, are you?”
Xie Chengyuan rolled his eyes. “Of course she isn’t. Do we need a professional player to deal with you? My sister alone can crush you!”
Yun Fu flexed her fingers and glanced at Xie Chengyuan. “Are we playing another round?”
“Yes, yes, yes!”
The opponents finally recovered and hurriedly began speaking.
“Miss, miss, take us with you!”
“You’re so good! Do you take disciples? Let’s add each other as friends and play together sometime.”
“Miss…” Before he could finish, Xie Chengyuan kicked him out.
The two boys on the other side finally realized who Xie Chengyuan’s sister was, but they remained stunned for a long time.
Eventually, they asked cautiously, “Could you be… Sister Yun Fu?”
“Yes.”
Two clear gasps came through the phone.
“Oh my gosh!”
Their current state of mind was simple: a celebrity they had seen on television was actually playing a game with them. It was unbelievable.
Xie Chengyuan found their reaction embarrassing and was utterly speechless. “It’s not as though you haven’t seen her before. Have you no shame? Hurry up. Are we playing or not?”
“Playing, playing!”
“Sis, you’re amazing! Is it because you endorse this game?”
“Yeah, sis, you’re incredible. If this game didn’t have cheats, I’d really suspect you were using one.”
“You completely carried the whole team just now. That was insanely cool!”
In the end, Xie Chengyuan found them too noisy and switched off the microphone.
At last, there was some peace.
Watching his little gesture, Yun Fu could not help curving her lips into a smile.
Meanwhile, the four people on the other side, who had just finished another game, remained stunned for a long time.
There was only one thought in their minds:
Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
