Chapter 139: She Truly Meant to Kill

Xi Rou’er brought out the best of her acting skills and squeezed out a few tears, instantly making herself look pitiful.
With reddened eyes, she gazed at Yun Fu. To anyone watching, it looked as though Yun Fu had bullied her.
Yun Fu set down the axe in her hand, and one sleeve slipped down.
As she rolled the sleeve back up, she regarded Xi Rou’er with a somewhat languid air, the corners of her lips lifting in a smile that revealed nothing of her emotions.
The moment their eyes met, Xi Rou’er’s pupils contracted. She instinctively wanted to retreat, sensing danger.
But Yun Fu pressed forward step by step until she stood directly in front of her.
Looking at that face so close at hand, Xi Rou’er stopped crying altogether.
“Who are you putting on this act for?” Yun Fu said softly. She had no idea whether the microphones had picked it up.
She bent down and leaned closer to Xi Rou’er. Once again, that dangerous sensation enveloped Xi Rou’er.
Yun Fu reached out and covered the microphone at Xi Rou’er’s collar. Her voice was already edged with impatience. “Xi Rou’er, don’t provoke me. You can’t afford the consequences.”
Xi Rou’er looked up.
What kind of eyes were those?
They resembled those of an eagle soaring through the blue sky—a born predator. They seemed to have been steeped in an icy pool, dangerous and cold.
It was as though Yun Fu could take her life with a single casual movement.
Xi Rou’er refused to be cowed by her presence, but she did not dare move an inch.
The audience in the livestream could only see the two of them standing very close. Yun Fu said a few words, after which Xi Rou’er’s face turned pale and her tears stopped.
[Am I the only one who thinks Xi Rou’er is putting on an act? Yun Fu hasn’t even done anything. Why is she acting as though Yun Fu bullied her?]
[She’s putting on a show for us, obviously. Too bad we couldn’t hear anything.]
[By comparison, I still admire Yun Fu more.]
[Who would like a fake innocent like her? Just wait—when the men come back, there’ll definitely be another scene.]
Unexpectedly, Xi Rou’er did not make a fuss.
Yun Fu contentedly swung the little axe in her hand.
After eating and drinking their fill, the day’s “journey” finally came to an end. With two more days and two more nights ahead of them, the group sighed and crawled into their tents to rest and recover.
In the middle of the night, Yun Fu suddenly heard movement beside her.
She did not open her eyes, but she knew Xi Rou’er had gone out. A while later, she heard the footsteps of another person.
The two of them left together.
Yun Fu frowned. Who could Xi Rou’er have gone to see? It could only be Zhou Shi, right?
Five minutes later, Xi Rou’er returned, carrying the dampness of the forest with her.
Yun Fu kept her eyes closed and remained motionless. Reassured, Xi Rou’er lay down again.

It was barely light when Yun Fu got up.
The production crew had risen as well. Seeing her, they were already accustomed to her early schedule.
“Good morning, Teacher Yun.”
“Morning.”
By the time daylight had fully broken, everyone was awake.
He Fang greeted them, then suddenly exclaimed in confusion, “Where’s Mu Bai? Haven’t any of you seen him?”
“Isn’t Teacher Mu still asleep?”
Everyone’s expressions changed, and the production crew members panicked as well.
“No. We got up early this morning and only saw Teacher Yun. We haven’t seen Teacher Mu at all.”
Gu Haoyuan frowned. “I think I vaguely heard Mu Bai get up last night. I assumed he’d gone to the bathroom.”
“Send people to look for him quickly. He shouldn’t have gone far.”
Everyone hurried off to search.
Only Yun Fu remained where she was. Her gaze swept toward Xi Rou’er, and she saw the panic she could not conceal in her eyes.
Her expression darkened, and she walked straight up to Xi Rou’er.
“Where’s Mu Bai?”
There were bloodshot veins in her eyes from a poor night’s sleep, and she looked even more dangerous than she had the night before.
Xi Rou’er shrank her neck. “I don’t know. Why are you asking me?”
Yun Fu ground her back teeth together. Her expression changed, and she seized Xi Rou’er by the throat.
“Ah!” Everyone who saw it was startled.
Xi Rou’er’s eyes widened in terror. “What are you doing? Let go of me!”
The agony of being deprived of oxygen terrified her. She desperately struck at Yun Fu’s hand, but the air grew thinner and thinner.
“I’m asking you one more time. Where is Mu Bai?”
“I—I don’t…” She could not finish, because the hand around her neck tightened further.
When she met Yun Fu’s eyes, filled with murderous fury, she knew that Yun Fu truly wanted her dead.
With no time to worry about anything else, she hurriedly pointed in one direction. “He—he went that way…”
The instant she finished speaking, the grip around her neck loosened. Yun Fu seized her by the collar and flung her away.
Xi Rou’er crashed heavily to the ground.
Yun Fu stepped over her, extended one leg, and kicked with force.
With a thunderous crack, a tree that had likely stood there for countless years toppled suddenly, missing Xi Rou’er on the ground by the narrowest margin.
Xi Rou’er raised her head and met Yun Fu’s gaze. The eyes were beautiful, but at that moment they seemed stained with blood. Just one look into them was enough to make her blood run cold.
Yun Fu snatched up the axe from the ground and ran down the path.

The others were still rooted to the spot. It was only when they saw her run off that they came back to their senses.
“Yun Fu, where are you going?”
“Hurry and follow her!”
“What on earth is going on?”
Gu Haoyuan cast a deep look at Xi Rou’er, whom Zhou Shi was helping to her feet. Then he grabbed his backpack and ran in the same direction.
Watching their retreating figures, Xi Rou’er bit her lower lip.
“It’s not like that. It’s not like that…”
The previous night, she had used the system’s “Make the False Seem True” skill to lure Mu Bai out. She had then deceived him into believing that Yun Fu was the one who had summoned him.
The director’s team had said that the path was dangerous. Xi Rou’er had therefore planned that if Mu Bai were injured or something happened to him along the way, everything would be blamed on Yun Fu.
[System, what should I do? What if Mu Bai tells Yun Fu?]
[Don’t worry, Host. Your acting is superb. He completely believes you—it’s practically the same as hypnosis.]
Only after hearing this did Xi Rou’er finally breathe a sigh of relief.
The system would not lie to her. She would not lose.
As for Yun Fu, even if she found Mu Bai, that would be perfect. The two of them could confront each other on the spot, making for a wonderfully dramatic scene.
After all, Mu Bai was so fiercely protective of Yun Fu. She would simply make the two of them turn against each other.
Meanwhile, Yun Fu ran onward. In this primeval forest, overgrown with weeds and without even a proper path, she moved as though nothing could impede her.
She had entered and exited the most dangerous primeval forests countless times, and had even survived in tropical rainforests.
She was the finest assassin alive. A small place like this could not possibly stand in her way.
Mu Bai, however, was different. He had gone out at night, when one could not see one’s own hand in front of one’s face. He must have encountered some danger, or he would have returned by now.
At the thought, Yun Fu felt a pang of regret. She should have gone out to look for him the previous night.
But far stronger than her regret was her fury toward Xi Rou’er.
She raced through the primeval forest as naturally as a fish through water. Following the faint traces left behind, she knew almost immediately which direction Mu Bai had taken, without even needing to call out.
“Help! Somebody help me!”
At last, she heard a cry for help.
Yun Fu let out a breath of relief and hurried toward the source of the voice.
