Chapter Ninety-Six: Truly the One You Chose
Several pairs of eyes turned simultaneously toward Yun Fu, but she maintained her composure and calm, walking lazily and unhurriedly toward the airport exit. The production crew quickly followed after her.
Then, they saw Yun Fu exchange a few words with a man outside the airport. It wasn't English, nor Italian, and certainly not any Chinese dialect they recognized. The man's expression changed instantly as he looked at Yun Fu; he nodded at her, then pulled a car key from his pocket and handed it to her while saying something else.
Throughout, Yun Fu's expression remained unchanged. When she heard the man's words, she merely nodded slightly in response.
The livestream chat exploded.
[??? Kid, do you also have a lot of question marks right now?]
[Can anyone understand what they said? Is that man an actor Yun Fu hired?]
[Comment above is idiotic.]
[Is Yun Fu really that awesome? Didn't she drop out of high school? What's going on here? What has the world come to?]
[Why did that man suddenly seem so respectful? What did they talk about? Oh my god, is there a translator here?]
In the headquarters of the Lian Corporation back home, inside the chairman's office—a room exuding seriousness from every corner—its master was gazing at his phone with a gentle smile.
If one drew closer, they would see that his eyes were fixed on a woman in the livestream. That woman was Yun Fu.
Bang. The office door was suddenly flung open. Lian Hanqi's brows furrowed as he looked up at the intruder.
"Bro, are you watching the livestream?" Gu Zhishu burst in, phone in hand, face alight as if eager to share a newfound treasure. "Your little sister-in-law is incredible! That place they're going, isn't it Saitris? How does she speak their language? Did you teach her?"
Gu Zhishu spoke as he flopped unceremoniously onto the sofa in the office.
Not far away, the handsome man in the office chair let his gaze fall again on the screen, watching the girl, his mind involuntarily recalling a long-ago dream.
In that dream, the girl had visited this country many times, for it was home to a stretch of white sands beloved by her mother.
Lying on the sofa, Gu Zhishu watched the poised and beautiful girl onscreen and couldn't help but remark, "No wonder you, Lian Hanqi, took a liking to her—she's not human, just like you."
That comment earned him a terrifying glare from Lian Hanqi.
Gu Zhishu shut his mouth, disgruntled, but then he noticed that his usually unflappable cousin was not working at all, but watching something on his phone.
A thought flashed through his mind.
Moving at lightning speed, Gu Zhishu dashed over. Sure enough, the image on his cousin’s screen was identical to his own.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. The mighty CEO of Lian Corporation, slacking off during work hours..."
"It seems you no longer cherish your place in this world," Lian Hanqi replied coolly.
Gu Zhishu hesitated, caught his cousin’s gaze, and instantly backed away: "I'm your own brother—same grandparents and all!"
"One more or less makes no difference."
"...I'm leaving."
As he closed the door, Lian Hanqi could still hear him mutter, "Cold-blooded beast!"
Lian Hanqi couldn't help but curl his lips into a faint smile.
Compared to his composure, the production crew was utterly astonished.
They could hardly believe that Yun Fu actually spoke such a rare language.
There were plenty of international students in Italy, but this place—Saitris—was so obscure you'd need a magnifying glass to find it on a world map. Yet Yun Fu could speak their native tongue.
The director clutched his chest. He had gone to great lengths to choose this country, intending for the crew to experience the hardships of travel.
Who would have thought Yun Fu could speak the language?
"Xiao Fu! You just took the keys? Where’s the driver?"
"There isn’t one."
Xi Rou’er couldn’t hold back any longer. She forced a kind smile. "We can’t do without a driver. None of us has an international license. Let me find a driver instead."
The comments once again filled with praise for the goddess’s kindness, though this time, fewer echoed the sentiment.
At her words, Yun Fu glanced at her as if she were an idiot.
"There's no need for an international license to drive here."
"…"
Once they were in the car, watching Yun Fu at the wheel and the flower-lined streets passing by, everyone was still a little dazed.
[Yun Fu can drive? Why do I find her kind of cool?]
[More than just cool! This is the first time I’ve seen a female celebrity drive so skillfully.]
[I know, right? And this is a foreign country without navigation. How does she manage it?]
[She even knows the local language—does it really matter how she manages? I feel like I’ll just keep being proved wrong.]
[Same here.]
The car sped smoothly along. The crew exchanged bewildered glances.
Xi Rou’er seethed in silence, Tong Zhenzhen followed suit, and the male guests were still a bit stunned.
At last, the professional host He Fang broke the silence.
"Xiao Fu, where are we headed?"
Yun Fu’s slender, porcelain-white fingers resting on the black steering wheel looked even more luminous in contrast.
It was hard to imagine she was driving a large truck.
"To find a place to stay."
"Do you know where to find accommodations?"
"Yes."
Her calm tone left even He Fang speechless.
Only Xi Rou’er kept watching Yun Fu drive, noticing the curious look on Gu Haoyuan’s face, the admiration in Mu Bai's eyes. Frustration built up inside her.
Ever since she’d acquired the system, she’d grown used to being the center of attention, the one everyone admired and followed.
But now, it seemed Yun Fu had taken her place.
Damn it!
Suppressing her resentment, Xi Rou’er forced herself to keep her tone steady. "Yun Fu, this is a strange place. Shouldn’t we ask someone for directions or look it up before heading out?" She added a hint of concern. "If something dangerous happens, we won’t know anything…"
"It’s very safe here."
The reply was as indifferent as ever, leaving Xi Rou’er at a loss, her smile faltering.
[I think my goddess makes a good point. Even if she’s been here before, it’s still a foreign country. If something goes wrong, can she take responsibility?]
[Exactly—she’s being reckless and not discussing things with the team. Isn’t this supposed to be a group effort? Why is she acting like the boss?]
[Isn’t this just who Yun Fu is? Acting as if she’s the center of the universe—it’s so annoying.]
[Since the production team chose this location, it must be safe. They wouldn’t let the cast get into real danger, would they?]
