Chapter 111: Believe it or Not, I Believe It Anyway!
“Mr. Chen Feng, you’re here. The boss is waiting for you in the hall!”
Upon seeing Chen Feng’s arrival, the guard was exceptionally courteous. After all, this wasn’t Chen Feng’s first visit. The guards had clearly recognized him as an esteemed guest of Lu Rui. Young Master Lu Ran affectionately called him “Brother Feng,” so naturally, the guards dared not show him any neglect.
“Mm,” Chen Feng nodded slightly, then parked his car and followed the guard’s lead into the Lu family’s main hall.
Having been here before, Chen Feng moved with ease and confidence. He pushed open the door and entered. In the hall, Lu Rui was sipping tea with a middle-aged man. Upon noticing Chen Feng, Lu Rui stood up and smiled gently. “Chen Feng, you’ve arrived?”
“Mm,” Chen Feng nodded in return. “Uncle Lu!”
“Come, have a seat,” Lu Rui beckoned him with a wave. “Let me introduce you.”
Chen Feng approached the sofa and his eyes fell on the middle-aged man. Contrary to his expectations, this man did not exude any fierce aura; rather, he had a very affable demeanor. To Chen Feng, he seemed more like an ordinary city white-collar worker than a martial artist.
“Zhang Mu, this is Chen Feng, the one I told you about,” Lu Rui said with a smile, pointing to Chen Feng. Then he gestured toward Zhang Mu. “He is Zhang Mu, the chief officer responsible for Jiangzhou, Xihang, and Donghai regions, and the captain of the Sixth Enforcement Squad of the Yanhuang Law Enforcement Team.”
“Hello,” Chen Feng nodded politely at Zhang Mu but secretly activated his Great Extraction System.
Immediately, the system displayed Zhang Mu’s information:
Name — Zhang Mu
Age — 43
Extractable Abilities:
- Xingyi Fist (Perfect) — requires 300 achievement points
- Bagua Palm (Perfect) — requires 300 achievement points
- Wing Chun Fist (Perfect) — requires 212 achievement points
- Tendon Severing Bone Breaking Hand (Great Mastery) — requires 400 achievement points
- Golden Emperor Blazing Fist (Small Mastery) — requires 900 achievement points
- Xuan Yang Technique — internal energy transformed into Xuan Yang Qi (positive energy). Requires 1000 achievement points.
- Internal Skill — Dan Energy Internal Skill, requires 20,000 achievement points.
...
“No way!” Chen Feng’s heart thumped uncontrollably. Zhang Mu was by far the person with the most extractable abilities among those Chen Feng had encountered. Counting carefully, Zhang Mu possessed a total of twenty-six abilities — utterly terrifying, far beyond Chen Feng’s imagination.
This seemingly unremarkable Zhang Mu was truly formidable. His Dan Energy Internal Skill exceeded Stephen Zhou’s by a full ten thousand points, making his internal skill even more formidable.
Moreover, he had perfected Xingyi Fist, Bagua Palm, Wing Chun Fist, and the Tendon Severing Bone Breaking Hand was also at its peak. This was simply too overwhelming. Zhang Mu was practically a treasure trove. Previously, Chen Feng thought his achievement points were abundant and sufficient, but now he realized they were far from enough.
“What’s wrong?” Zhang Mu suddenly spoke.
Chen Feng snapped back to reality and replied, “Sorry, I was just lost in thought for a moment. Please don’t mind me, Captain Zhang.”
Zhang Mu regarded Chen Feng with a faint smile. “Lu Rui has already told me about your situation. You fought the Black Skull mercenaries alone and defeated them, correct?”
“Yes!” Chen Feng quickly responded, “I did engage and defeat the Black Skull mercenaries!”
Zhang Mu smiled as he said, “I only want to understand some details. Don’t worry, Lu Rui and I are old friends. Some things I can keep confidential for you.”
Chen Feng nodded, and Zhang Mu began asking questions. Chen Feng answered them one by one. After a few inquiries, Zhang Mu slowly said, “Chen Feng, I have a few more questions.”
“Please ask,” Chen Feng’s heart skipped a beat, knowing these questions would touch on critical secrets.
Zhang Mu looked at Chen Feng seriously. “I’ve investigated you. You needn’t be surprised — I have to understand everything about you. It’s August now, but from what I know, five months ago, you were a fat man weighing over 200 pounds. Your academic performance was at the bottom of your class, your basketball skills were poor, and your kung fu, marksmanship, even your cooking skills were lacking. Can you explain that?”
Chen Feng pondered briefly, then replied slowly, “Where do you want me to start?”
“Start from when some thugs tried to assault Fang Yue and you defeated them,” Zhang Mu said with a smile, though his eyes shone with a sharp glint.
“I didn’t actually beat them,” Chen Feng shook his head earnestly. “Someone else did. He was a man radiating an extremely dangerous aura. He crippled those thugs and then shoved something into my mouth. I’m not exactly sure what it was, but after that, I noticed changes. First, in basketball, I could control the ball precisely and shoot accurately. Then in academics, I only needed to glance at something to understand it, and learning became effortless.”
Chen Feng rambled on while watching Zhang Mu’s expression, unsure whether he believed him. Yet, judging from Zhang Mu’s thoughtful demeanor, Chen Feng felt he had earned about seventy to eighty percent of his trust. Whether a substance existed that could make one physically stronger and intellectually sharper after ingestion was uncertain, but among the characters Chen Feng could extract, such things did exist — for example, the Super Soldier Serum, which multiplied intelligence, strength, endurance, explosiveness, and recovery.
“Go on,” Zhang Mu urged.
“Later,” Chen Feng continued, “that mysterious man appeared before me again. He said we were destined to meet and taught me some culinary skills and how to handle firearms. My learning speed was already fast, so...”
“And what about that man?” Zhang Mu pressed further.
“I don’t know,” Chen Feng shrugged. “By the time Luo Wenhao came to cause trouble, he had already vanished. After that, I have no idea what happened or where he went.”
Chen Feng’s words sounded like something out of a fantasy novel—he had read countless similar plots online and now spoke them as if they were true. Whether Zhang Mu believed him was another matter.
“What if he doesn’t believe you?” Chen Feng wondered silently. If he told such a story to anyone else, they would have slapped him by now for joking.
Yet Zhang Mu believed him to some extent. He was sure Chen Feng was hiding something but also believed Chen Feng had indeed experienced a miraculous encounter; otherwise, he could not have transformed so drastically in such a short time.
Chen Feng was indeed concealing part of the truth, reducing the system to an unknown old man, but the rest was genuine.
Even as he spoke, Chen Feng almost convinced himself. Whether others believed it or not, he did.
Zhang Mu looked at Chen Feng and said slowly, “Chen Feng, I will reserve judgment on everything you’ve told me. You’ve now stepped into the ranks of martial artists. I won’t make things difficult for you, but I hope you understand that being powerful doesn’t mean you can act recklessly. If I find out you’ve committed any heinous acts, I will deal with you accordingly. Do you understand?”
His words carried a strong aura, causing Chen Feng’s whole body to tremble as if crushed by a massive mountain. A cold sweat broke out on his forehead.
“Understood,” Chen Feng nodded. “I will never break the law, but if someone provokes me, don’t blame me for fighting back.”
Zhang Mu gave him a knowing look and smiled. “Of course. If you must fight other martial artists, I’ll give you some advice: the affairs of the martial world remain in the martial world. Our Yanhuang Enforcement Team only intervenes when martial artists disturb the lives of ordinary people. As for disputes within the martial community, as long as they don’t get out of hand, we won’t interfere.”
Chen Feng understood quite a bit. The Yanhuang Enforcement Team wished to intervene in everything, but some matters were beyond their reach. How many members did they have? And how many martial artists were there?
Nodding, Chen Feng replied slowly, “I understand.”
“One more thing,” Zhang Mu said seriously. “I need your blood. I want to analyze it to see what changes have occurred in your body. Don’t worry, it won’t take much.”
“You want my blood?” Chen Feng narrowed his eyes slightly, his mind racing with countless thoughts, then smiled faintly. “Of course.”
