Chapter Ninety-Nine: Blood Debt Must Be Repaid in Blood!
In an instant, Luo Wenqiang had lost all four limbs, and even his tongue had been cut out. Yet there was not the slightest change in Chen Feng’s expression, as though all of it were no more than a trivial task.
Luo Wenqiang had already passed out. Blood still seeped from the places where his arms and legs had been severed, and he looked wretched beyond description. Chen Feng ignored him and hurried to Fang Yue’s side. Earlier, when he had shielded her from the bullets, he had also knocked her unconscious, lest she discover any secrets.
Though Fang Yue was his girlfriend, there were still things Chen Feng did not intend for her to know. After a brief examination confirmed that she had not been harmed, he carried her out of the little factory.
When he reached the BMW outside, Chen Feng frowned slightly. His phone was ringing.
It was Lu Rui calling.
Chen Feng picked up. As soon as the call connected, a cold voice came through: “Luo Wenqiang, I don’t care what your purpose is. I’ll tell you one thing: if anything happens to Chen Feng, you’re dead.”
“Uncle Lu, it’s me,” Chen Feng said.
“Chen Feng? You’re all right? Where are you?” Lu Rui could not help but be startled. When he had just heard from Xiao Yu that Chen Feng had been taken away, he had been genuinely worried for quite some time. Chen Feng had done him a favor, certainly, but Luo Wenqiang and his mercenaries were also a threat to him, a threat that had to be eliminated.
“I’m fine,” Chen Feng said slowly. “I’m not exactly sure where I am. It looks like the outskirts. Ah, I recognize this place now. It should be Shenghong’s abandoned factory. I’m here.”
Lu Rui said quickly, “Good. Stay there and wait for me. I’ll send people to rescue you right away.”
“No need,” Chen Feng replied indifferently. “Except for Luo Wenqiang, everyone else is already dead. Uncle Lu, I’ll have to trouble you to bring some people over and clear this up.”
“כולם are dead?” Lu Rui’s pupils contracted slightly, and a strange thought arose in his mind. Could this Chen Feng have killed them all?
“Yes, all dead,” Chen Feng said calmly. “No, to be precise, one is not dead yet. Luo Wenqiang. I’ve already turned him into a human stick.”
A human stick?
Lu Rui drew in a sharp breath, a chill seeming to rise from deep within his bones. He had long known that Chen Feng was no harmless man, but even so, at this moment he was still deeply shaken. To turn a man into that state—how could he say it so lightly?
So lightly, as though he were merely dismembering an ant.
“I’ll be right there,” Lu Rui said quickly. “Wait for me there. I’ll be there within half an hour at most.”
“All right, I understand,” Chen Feng said, and then he hung up.
After settling Fang Yue, Chen Feng returned unhurriedly into the factory. By then Luo Wenqiang had awakened. He stared at Chen Feng with eyes full of terror and venomous hatred, knowing full well that he had been utterly finished.
Chen Feng looked at him expressionlessly, found some soil, and covered Luo Wenqiang’s wounds with it. He did not want Luo Wenqiang dying so quickly. Whether or not it would stop the bleeding was another matter; for now, that would do.
Then Chen Feng hid the vibranium sound-absorbing shield, so that Lu Rui would not discover it later. Such things did not exist in the real world, and if anyone found them, they would only become troublesome. After that, Chen Feng checked the surveillance system in the little factory and destroyed every recording.
When all this was done, he returned to Luo Wenqiang’s side. By then Luo Wenqiang had once again fainted. Chen Feng frowned slightly, found a sack, and shoved Luo Wenqiang straight inside.
By the time Lu Rui arrived, he froze in place.
Chen Feng was washing a car. It was the BMW he had come in. The three men inside had already been dragged out, and he was wiping the blood from the vehicle. Beside the BMW stood a sack, still twitching faintly.
This eerie scene left everyone stunned.
The thick stench of blood in the factory made Lu Rui draw in a cold breath. Chen Feng walked up to him with a smile and said, “Uncle Lu, you’re here.”
Looking at the smile on Chen Feng’s face, Lu Rui truly could not understand how Chen Feng could still smile at all. Worse, that smile was utterly strange, carrying a profound sense of unreality. With not the slightest change of emotion, Lu Rui even had the feeling that the person standing before him was a machine, not a living human being.
“Damn it, how did it become like this? He’s usually not like this at all!” Lu Rui could not help but frown deeply.
“Uncle Lu, I’ll have to trouble you to look after Fang Yue for me, and also to handle this matter,” Chen Feng said politely. Yet the more polite he sounded, the stranger Lu Rui felt it to be.
In Chen Feng’s present state, his face could still form all sorts of expressions—smiles, disdain, anger—but his emotions would not fluctuate much. Any expression upon his face seemed somehow unnatural. Still, the potion known as Bexian did not utterly erase human feeling. Even in this state, Chen Feng could still experience emotional movement, though not strongly.
If it were truly possible to strip away all the most primitive human emotions, then in The Fury of a Breaking World, the protagonist Preston would not have chosen, on instinct, to stop continuing the injections.
Lu Rui nodded. “All right, no problem. But where are you going?”
“Me?” Chen Feng lifted the sack in his hand. It was still struggling, and Lu Rui was startled, blurting out, “What is that?”
“It’s Luo Wenqiang,” Chen Feng said calmly. “I turned him into a human stick. I’m preparing to send a little gift to Luo Yongjiang.”
Lu Rui took several steps back instinctively. Chen Feng, however, opened the BMW’s trunk without a care, tossed Luo Wenqiang straight inside, then picked up a can of gasoline from the other side of the car and said evenly, “Uncle Lu, you should know where Luo Yongjiang lives, right?”
“I—I know.” Lu Rui nodded. “He lives in the wealthy district of Jiangzhou, on...”
He quickly named the address. Chen Feng listened and nodded. “Thank you, Uncle Lu. There’s one more thing I’ll have to trouble you with.”
“What is it?” Lu Rui found himself almost afraid of Chen Feng. This man, devoid of any emotional fluctuation, felt utterly alien. He was no stranger to all sorts of eccentric temperaments and oddities, even those few truly ruthless men who took life and death lightly, but at least they still showed some change of emotion. Yet Chen Feng before him showed none at all.
“I need a clean set of clothes. I’ll have to trouble one of your bodyguards to give me a new outfit, something without blood on it,” Chen Feng said calmly.
Lu Rui nodded and casually called over a bodyguard to help Chen Feng change into a clean set of clothes.
“Chen Feng, I know what you’re going to do. Still, I have to remind you: if you’re going to do something, do it flawlessly. Don’t let anyone find out. Some things, I can’t step forward and handle myself.”
Chen Feng turned back to look at Lu Rui and nodded. “Thank you, Uncle Lu.”
Lu Rui could not help but stare.
Chen Feng, meanwhile, calmly got into the BMW, stepped on the accelerator, and vanished in a cloud of dust.
Watching the car disappear, Lu Rui finally let out a slight breath, though his heart was in turmoil. He turned to the bodyguards beside him and said, “Immediately clear this place out. Burn everything that needs burning.”
These bodyguards were all Lu Rui’s trusted men. They obeyed his every order, and if Lu Rui told them to kill or set fire, they would not hesitate for a second. A line of bodyguards entered the factory and swiftly gathered all the corpses together.
“Mr. Lu, this Chen Feng is no ordinary man,” one bodyguard said gravely, stepping forward.
“Oh?” Lu Rui looked at him. The man was named He Qiang, one of the bodyguards he valued most. He had once been a mercenary himself, formidable in strength. After leaving the underworld, he had become one of Lu Rui’s guards. Whenever anything important arose, He Qiang was generally responsible for Lu Rui’s safety.
He Qiang could tell Lu Rui wanted to hear more, so he did not hesitate and quickly said, “First, Chen Feng’s marksmanship is terrifying. Every shot was a kill shot. But that’s not the most frightening part. If it were me, I could do that too. What’s truly terrifying is here.”
He walked to an open area in the factory and said seriously, “He stood right here and exchanged fire with others. In other words, he fought without any cover at all, completely exposing himself, and still killed them all with his gun.”
“What?” Lu Rui’s pupils shrank slightly. He had not come up through storms of bullets and fire, but he still understood enough to know how terrifying it was to stand exposed in a gunfight and still come out alive.
“This Chen Feng is truly incredible. Looks like it was right to build a good relationship with him,” Lu Rui thought, drawing in a deep breath. Then he looked at He Qiang and said, “All right. Keep this matter secret and clean up this place.”
Taking one more look at the little factory, Lu Rui could not help drawing in a cold breath. It seemed he could already see Luo Yongjiang’s miserable end.
Blood debt must be repaid in blood.
