At noon, when school was dismissed, Chen Feng didn’t go home. His house had long since been burned down by men that Luo Wenhao had sent, so Chen Feng had asked Xiao Yu to help him buy an apartment in downtown Jiangzhou. Xiao Yu naturally agreed without hesitation, and the very next day the new place was his, though he hadn’t yet bought any furniture. Chen Feng wasn’t in a hurry—his parents still needed time to recover in the hospital. Each day, he would escort Fang Yue home and spend the evenings either at the hospital with his parents or on his own.

He had already shared with Xiao Yu the complete method for making the famous “Bursting Beef Balls.” With so many capable people at her disposal, Xiao Yu quickly put the dish into production. For a time, it brought a surge of customers to her hotel. Although the taste fell short of Chen Feng’s own cooking, the unique ingredients and flavor set it apart and drew in plenty of diners.

Arriving at his new apartment, Chen Feng made sure he was alone before speaking in a low voice: “System, extract the full version of the Super Soldier Serum for me.”

As soon as his words fell, Chen Feng felt something new stirring within his body. This time, the system didn’t produce a syringe or anything of the sort. Instead, the effect happened directly inside him.

“Damn!”

He couldn’t help cursing aloud as a wave of intense pain shot through every nerve in his body. He could sense his cells being violently torn apart and then transforming into something new. Not only that, his mind was clearer than ever before. Compared to last time, the pain was even more intense, so much so that even if he wished to pass out, it was impossible.

“So, this is how agonizing the Super Soldier Serum truly is?” Chen Feng gritted his teeth and endured the transformation in silence. At the same time, a yellow light appeared out of thin air, enveloping his entire body.

Vita Rays!

These rays were specifically used to stabilize the Super Soldier Serum. Chen Feng could distinctly feel the subtle changes in his body—each cell seemed to be undergoing fission. His body swelled, then contracted, swelled again, and contracted once more.

This cycle repeated—three times in total.

At last, after an unknown length of time, Chen Feng exhaled a long breath, beads of sweat trickling down his entire body. He stood and stretched, immediately feeling a surge of energy, his mind sharper than ever, his senses keener. More than that, he could feel the powerful regenerative abilities now residing within him.

“So this is what the complete Super Soldier Serum feels like?” Chen Feng looked over himself. His appearance hadn’t changed much—there was none of the exaggerated, monstrous musculature seen in movies after receiving the serum. Instead, his muscles remained streamlined, a result of his recent weight loss and daily Wing Chun training. His physique was not bulky, but his muscles were tightly packed and explosive.

Now, the serum had only strengthened the original distribution of his muscles, making them denser and sturdier. Especially the inner membrane—it felt at least three times thicker than before.

He flicked his muscle lightly, frowning, then suddenly clenched his right fist. Instantly, all the blood and energy in his body surged to his right hand. His arm swelled to twice its usual thickness, and he could clearly sense the immense, terrifying strength coursing through it.

This was the limit of external refinement!

Such a thought flashed through Chen Feng’s mind. He was not just someone who had received the serum—he’d also studied Wing Chun. Captain America had never trained in martial arts, only Western boxing, relying mainly on his physical prowess.

But Chen Feng was different. In addition to the serum, he had embarked on the path of cultivation, learning how to use his inner membrane and control his strength.

He touched the sleeve of his shirt, and a wry smile crept onto his face. It seemed he’d grown taller again. His height had already increased from the original 1.72 meters to 1.85, and now, by his own estimate, he might have reached 1.88 meters.

“At least it’s only three centimeters more. If I’d shot up past two meters, people would start to get suspicious.”

Now, the difference in his body was unmistakable. His strength had increased at least three to fivefold. His hearing and sight were even sharper, and he could faintly sense the movement of air currents around him as he stood there.

Every subtle fluctuation was readily perceptible, every wisp, every trace.

A faint smile played on Chen Feng’s lips as he muttered to himself, “So this is what it feels like to grow stronger? I wonder, if a bullet hits me now, would it be able to kill me?”

Even as he said this, he had no intention of using his own body to test a bullet’s power—he wasn’t about to make a joke out of his own life.

The An Family of Jiangzhou

In Jiangzhou, the An family was not a particularly prominent clan; their influence was even less than that of Luo Yongjiang and his son.

The An family had only risen in the past three to five years. Before that, no one paid them any heed.

In a quiet garden within the An family villa, An Ran sat cross-legged, producing a delicate box which she opened to reveal a yellow pill exuding a faint fragrance. Casually, she tossed it into her mouth and began to channel her energy in silence.

A chill began to emanate from her body, even though it was June and the weather already sweltering. Yet the spot where An Ran sat exuded a frigid aura, cooling the surrounding meter or so as if an air conditioner were running at full blast.

After an indeterminate period, An Ran slowly opened her eyes, braced her feet, and rose to stand.

“An Ran, are you done practicing?” A voice echoed by her ear, casual, even a little flippant.

“Mm.” She replied with a note from her nose, her tone cold, “Qiye, how did the investigation go?”

“This Chen Feng fellow really is a bit odd!” The man called Qiye coughed. “I tell you, that kid is seriously weird. His family’s got no background to speak of; he was seriously ill not long ago, then only started putting on weight after some doctor gave him an injection, which is bizarre enough. Then, in just a couple months, he suddenly got good at basketball, learned to cook, even improved his grades. He clashed with Luo Wenhao a while ago—seems he even killed him personally—but Lu Rui suppressed the whole thing, so I didn’t dig further.”

“Lu Rui?” A flicker of shock passed over An Ran’s face, and she recalled how Chen Feng had gotten into Xiao Yu’s Maserati without hesitation.

This Chen Feng was far from simple.

“Hey, sis, why bother worrying about Chen Feng? What does he have to do with our family?” Qiye snorted dismissively. “Just focus on your training and get on the good side of Young Master Ye when the time comes!”

An Ran’s eyes snapped to Qiye, her voice icy: “Qiye, my affairs are none of your concern.”

Qiye froze, then pressed on, “An Ran, you’re my little sister. You know full well all our family’s wealth comes from Young Master Ye. You’d better not do anything foolish, or we’ll lose everything we have!”

“Enough,” An Ran sneered, her voice cold and measured. “My affairs are for me to handle. No reminders needed.”

“An Ran! As your brother, I have to warn you—for the sake of the An family, don’t get any strange ideas!” Qiye called again, then as if struck by a thought, suddenly exclaimed, “Wait, I get it—you’ve fallen for Chen Feng, haven’t you?”

An Ran said nothing, only fixed him with a frosty stare that sent a chill through Qiye’s bones, an inexplicable dread clenching his heart.

“Qiye, I respect you as my brother, but I don’t need you meddling in my life!” With a cold laugh, An Ran continued, “You know as well as I do, the An family owes everything to me. Believe me, I can take it all away from you just as easily.”

Qiye swallowed hard, a surge of fear creeping over him. An Ran’s tone, however, became calm once more: “I have never cared about any man. As for Chen Feng, do you really think he’s worthy of me?”
